President Bola Tinubu has flagged-off the ultra-modern Cancer Centre of Excellence at the David Umahi University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), Uburu in Ohaozara Local government of Ebonyi State
The President who was represented by Chief David Umahi, Minister of Works commended the institution for the Cancer, Renal and Eye Centers of Excellence, which he said will be key in the achievement of the health component of his Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerians.
The President said that his administration would continue to support the university to achieve its cardinal vision of being a center of excellence in medical and health sciences in order to eliminate medical tourism in Nigeria.

Prof. Jesse Uneke, in his address commended the President for his tremendous support to the University and the country’s educational sector.
He described the cancer centre as a state-of-the -arts centre of excellence for cancer research, training and patient care.
He said that the centre was operating with a multi-disciplinary team of experts specialising in conducting research and training on cancer related issues and caring for people with cancer disease.
He noted that the center conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programmes related to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.
Uneke explained that a total of 207 cancer patients have been treated by the university.
"Of this number, 88(42.5%} were males while a 119(57. 5%} were females. A total of 107(51.7%) of the patients were aged between 40 years and 60 years old.
"The commonest cancers were Breast cancer 53(25.6%}, Prostrate cancer 43(20.8%), Cancer of the cervix 25(12.1%) and Cancer of the head/neck 32(15.5%)", he said
