Abakaliki Football Club of Ebonyi on Saturday defeated the visiting Gateway United Football Club 1-0 in a 2024/2025 Nigeria National League fixture.
The match was played at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki.
De Rice boys defender, Ifeanyi Ezema in the 34-minutes scored the goal that placed Abakaliki FC in the winning place.
The Coach, Gateway United, said that the match was keenly contested by both sides and said that the team would make amend where necessary as they prepare for the next outing.
Abakaliki Football Club coach, Ifeanyi Onyedika expressed joy for the 3-points earned by the team, but said that the boys are yet to impress him as expected.
The state Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Richard Idike commended players for their performance adding that the team joined the season late but assured that the management would make amendment in midfield and strikers.
Also, the Chairman Abakaliki FC supporters club, Maurice Mbam applauded team's performance stating that football is not magic as the boys need to be familiar with each other and that is the building stage they are.
