Ebonyi Lawmaker, Nwankwo offers scholarship to Constituents






The member representing Ohaozara East Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly Hon Igu Chikezie Nwankwo has awarded scholarship to 20 students from his Constituency studying in various higher institutions.

Nwankwo offered the scholarship to students through his foundation Iguson Educational Foundation.

The beneficiaries received hundred thousand naira each  and other educational materials.

Speaking during the flag off, the State Governor Chief  Francis  Nwifuru who was represented by the member representing Izzi West Constituency Hon Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri said that the lawmaker has done well to  partner with the educational progmme of the state government and described him as a human being developer whose works within the state shall be remembered for a long time.

The Governor commended the leadership of the Foundation for thier perfect job and implored them to monitor the beneficiaries on how to make the best use of the supports and also urged the takers of the grants to always avoid social vices and make the best use of any opportunity that comes thier way.

The Chairman of the event, Dr Uche Iburu said that the event was first of its kind in Ohaozara East and lauded the lawmaker for his williness to upgrade the educational standard of the constituents.

The Sponsor of the Programme and member representing Ohaozara East Constituency Hon Igu Chikezie Nwankwo said that the Foundation has been silent in the awards since 1998 and that he decided to make it public in 2025.

He described Ohaozara East as the cradle of Education in South Eastern Region having produced the first Education Minister  Onyibe  Aja Nwachuku.

Hon Igu maintained that the Foundation was in support of  the Educational Progmmmes of the State Governor ,Rt Hon Bldr Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru who has given out scholarship to Ebonyi Students to study overseas.

In his speech, the chairman of the foundation, Dr Monday Okereke Ugwu commended the foundation Committee for passing through all the hurdles of the beneficiaries selection through wild consultations, to bring brilliant indigent students to utilize the funds.

He commended the sponsor of the Programme and described him as a provider who has come to lessen the pains of the parents in educating thier children.

Important dignitaries who spoke at the occasion include the Traditional Ruler of Mgbom Ugwulangwu autonomous Community HRH Eze Frank Agu Eze, the State Commissioner for  Agriculture Hon Princess Nkechinyere Iyioku, Ebonyi State Internally Generated Revenue Board Member Hon Ozoemena Njoku, Mrs Judith Okoronkwo wife of former commissioner for Local Government  and chieftaincy matters Bar Samuel Okoronkwo, Dr Clinton Njoku, Hon Ikechukwu Igwe Councilor representing Ugwulangwu ward 3, Ohaozara Local Government APC Chairman Mr Nwali Chukwunweoru and the wife of the sponsor, Associate Prof.  Ntasiobi Igu Chikezie Nwankwo all praised the golden steps of the foundation and said that the Programme was based on merit and that it will go a long way in advancing the educational pursuit of the beneficiaries.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Nnachi Samuel Ikechukwu of AE--FUNAI, said that the beneficiaries will make the  best use of the opportunity and thanked  the facilitator for the largesse and prayed God for more guidance.
