Ali Odefa remains the PDP NVC, South East

By Prince Okey Elebe

The media are at it again, celebrating abhorrent handout from inane and inconsequential mendicants and socio-political misfits, serving their base interests in spreading a nebulous and impracticable desire to replace High Chief Odefa with one of their likes, one Goodluck Chidiebere Egwu.

Nigerian politicians are outrightly mischievous, unbridled desperados, anarchically coercive, maniacally manipulative,
criminally hypocritical and infectious, viciously and wilfully ignorant and incurably rapacious.

These vices are the remote inducements for the ochastrated smear against High Chief Ali Odefa, the substantive National Vice Chairman of PDP, South East.

It is surprising, that the media  would lend themselves to such perfidy without the slightest attempt to verify the claims of ignorant, woeful and grievously bankrupt elements, as well as disgruntled, faceless mischief peddlers and aberrants who are determined to smear the integrity of High Chief Ali Odefa, the performance-driven National Vice Chairman of PDP, South East for no just cause.

There have been flagrant and spurious allegations and declarations about unfounded and inexistent issues. The generators of the controversy have written to the PDP NEC but were rebuffed. They took a recourse to the courts and were disappointed by the high court in Abakaliki where they sought an injunction to restrain High Chief Odefa from parading himself as the South East NVC. Convinced about the futility of the request, the judge granted it for only one month.

The whole matter started with a purported suspension, then expulsion. But
who are those that expelled him? Can a non-member of a party or ward EXCO expel a high ranking member without due process simply because you nurse damnable Jezebelic spirit to afflict, discredit and disgrace him?

These questions succinctly convey the scenario in High Chief Odefa's case. Some mentally deformed individuals got up one day and concocted a melodramatic plot of infamy in conformity with the spirit of Jezebel purporting to have suspended him.
Inexplicably, the media went agog with the trash without verifying the handouts circulated to them.

The following are the immediate past executives of Ogudu Okwo ward: Ogbonnaya Ikele, Obasi Kamalu, Ogbonnaya Okoria, Ogbonnaya Obasi Eze, Ikechukwu Alo, Grace Obaji Okereke,
Ebere Odii, Mary Mark, Rebecca Igwe, Ebere Ogbonnaya.

The current members of the ward executive committee based on congresses conducted recently are: Okorie Michael, Rebecca Igwe, Victor O. Eyeke, Ebere Isii, Okoro Chinenye, Obasi Eze, Chinenye Ngwee, Sunday Nome, Ebere Ogbonna, Ogbonnaya Ikele, Chinyere Una, Mary Mark, Michael Agu, Roseline Anaga, Elizabeth Elebe, Ogbonnaya Okorie.

The impostors are:
HERBERT OVUTA NJOKU, IJEOMA NOME, OGBONNA IDIKA, NWOMEKA, NJOKU NWAGWU, OBINA NWACHUKWU,
ONWUMERE EGBE.

Now, do you find any coincidence between those in capitals and the others? There is none, and this is verifiable.

Nonetheless, there can be no diffidence in the face of the legal battle concerning this matter. The litigation is expedient because when judges make pronouncements, they are, some of the time, not dependent on truth. Rather, facts may have been misplaced, defaced, discountenanced or deliberately ignored.
Consequently, you revert in order to put the facts straight and restore the truth.

Lest we forget, every organisation relies on a grund norm to guide its activities and intra-relationships. The constitution of PDP in chapter 10 (DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES) states
in verse (3): The working committee at any level of the party, and the executive committee (at the ward level) may, after preliminary hearings, suspend a member from the party for a period not exceeding one month, during which period the member so suspended shall lose his right to contest any election, and shall be referred to the appropriate disciplinary committee.

(4) Where an allegation is made against a member of the party, the disciplinary committee shall inform the member in writing of the allegations made against him and the place and time of hearing the case against him or her.

(5)A member who appears before a disciplinary committee shall be given opportunity to present his case orally or in writing either in person or through a counsel of his choice and shall be allowed to call witnesses.

(6) Any decision taken against a member who has not been informed of the charges against him or has not been given any opportunity of defending himself shall be null and void.

(7) Notwithstanding any other provision relating to disciplinary, no EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AT ANY LEVEL, except the National Executive Committee, shall entertain any question of discipline as may relate or concern a member of the National Executive Committee, Deputy Governors or members of the National Assembly.

Were the foregoing procedure applied in this matter? The answer is no. Then why should any reasonable person imagine that the agents of Jezebel will succeed in their mindless travesty?

The ward executive committee has written to the Ag. National Chairman of PDP stating that "Ovuta Herbert Onyedikachi and Mr Njoku Nwagu are not members of the elected ward executive of Ogudu Okwo before, during or after the last successful congresses in Ebonyi State.

Similarly, the state Chairman and Secretary, Chief Peter Onyema Nwele and Hon. Ogbuefi Zacheous Ifeuwabundidi respectively, have also written to the Ag. National Chairman affirming that authours of the letter suspending the NVC, South East, were fake persons, and that should there be any reason for the aforementioned letter be from genuine persons, the ward is expected to have informed the local government area chapter who in turn would have communicated the state chapter.

The letter added that they have communicated the ward and local government area organs of the party and found that no such situation ever existed.

For the information of the traducers, High Chief Ali Odefa has been participating in all NEC and NWC activities without any hindrance. If he would be removed, it must be through the convention which comes up later this year. But this is remotely achievable.

The NVC, High Chief Odefa Ali Odefa is not  at the Appeal Court for the purpose of seeking return because he did not by any imagination lose his exalted position of NVC, South East, neither was he suspended from the party because all such actions were null, void and of no effect. Rather, nothing untoward or dubious should be allowed attachment to his position, name or person. It is certain that at the forthcoming convention of the party, High Chief Odefa will be returned.

It is pertinent that purveyors of information should be circumspect in the gathering of information and in the dissemination of same because of the weighty implications of whatever that emanates from them.

We must endeavour to diminish circumstances not characterised by fairness and reasonableness, to uphold those that go beyond labels, that do not distort or promise to do things we know are uncivilised or inexpedient. Let us believe in relationships strong enough to be associated with love and compassion, and smart enough to convert our noblest aspirations into practical realities.
