The wife of governor of Ebonyi State, Mrs Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru has urged women to embrace their roles in building their homes in such a way that the good virtues from different homes would be manifested in the society.
Mrs Nwifuru stated this during the flag -off of 2024 Ebonyi women August Meeting with the theme"a wise woman builds her home " held at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki.
She urged the women to reflect on the purpose of the gathering and implement it in their homes.
The wife of the governor further called on the them to deepen their commitment, responsibilities and roles to improve society and return all the lost societal values.
"In our society, women have always been the backbone of families. They are the caregivers, educators, and often the peacemakers. A wise woman builds her home by fostering an environment where these values thrive. She understands that her influence extends beyond her immediate family; it reaches into the community as she raises children who will become responsible citizens".
"Throughout history, women have played pivotal roles in shaping societies, leading with compassion, wisdom, and determination. The August meeting is a reminder of the above tenets. They sum up the collective power we wield as women - a signal that what we represent, transcends generations and touches the lives of those around us positively".
"A wise woman builds her home” serves as both an encouragement and a challenge for each one of us. It calls us to embrace our roles as nurturers not just in terms of physical upkeep but in emotional support and spiritual guidance as well".
" Let us strive to be those wise women who build homes characterized by love, respect, positivity, and faithfulness. Together we can create environments where families flourish where laughter echoes through hallways filled with warmth and where every member feels cherished".
Earlier in his speech, Governor Francis Nwifuru while commending Ebonyi women for their enormous contribution towards achieving peace in the State called on them to inculcate in their children the culture and traditions of their Communities.
The Governor said the culture and traditions of Ebonyi people placed a premium on discipline and hard work, stressing that it will also discourage the children from engaging in vices.
He also urged mothers to remain committed to their complementary roles by assisting their husbands to build virile homes.
" The theme for this year's meeting which is "a wise woman builds her home " is very apt because it reminds you of your expected roles in the family"
He commended Ebonyi women for turning out in their numbers to participate in the meeting and urged them to take the lectures seriously.
The programme which attracted different women groups across 13 LGAs in the State featured medical outreach, lectures on ending drug abuse, maintaining proper hygiene practice.
Our correspondent reports that 25 kg bags of rice, cash and fertilizers were distributed to the women while 157 persons received ICT equipment, barbing kits and sewing machines.
