Ebonyi commences training of 100 youths on Agric business

Ebonyi State government has flagged off training of One Hundred youths into specialized Agricultural Skills to make them self reliant 


The State  Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Mrs Ann Aligwe who  flagged off the training tagged: Flag off of 2024 Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru Empowerment Programme, FONEP on behalf of the state governor  at Remeritona Hotel, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state said that the initiative was one of the state government policies geared towards human capacity development.


The Commissioner said that the first batch of the training which is targeted at 100 persons would be trained in Enugu on various sectors of agriculture namely cassava farming, fishery, poultry and piggery.

“This is the pilot stage, on completion of the training, government would send another batch of trainees”

Mrs Aligwe said the training is targeted at 1000 persons at the end but will be going in batches.

She stated that participants were selected from the 13-LGAs of the state that would be trained for two months at Enugu by Master Skills Development and Service Farms, thereafter, would be empowered based on area of interest

She added that the state government target is to make Ebonyi a hub of economy of the country come 2027.

She urged the participants to maintain orderliness during and after the training stating that the decision to groom them first with skills before monetary empowerment was to reduce the abuse of the opportunity.

“It is the desire of government to train the youths, then empowerment follows immediately after the training

On his part, a consultant and Chief Director of Master Skills Development and Service Farms,  Enugu, Mr Onyemauche Nnamani enjoined the participants to be committed to the program as to encourage the state governor to train more citizens as in line with his people's charter of needs mantra.

The executive director who lamented over the risen cases of joblessness and kidnapping among the youth thanked the state government for buying into the idea and urged other state governors to borrow into the scheme for onward development.

Some of the participants including Miss Nwibo Helen and Sochukwuma Enoch thanked the state governor, Francis Nwifuru for giving them the opportunity to be trained in agriculture value chain and promised to make the state proud.
