Nwifuru committed to constructing durable roads, says Commissioner

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engnr Stanley Lebechi Mbam  has said that Governor Francis Nwifuru was committed to construction of roads that would be durable.

Mbam who stated this at a media parley with some select journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital said 13.327km Abakaliki internal roads that traversed multiple streets in the city were embarked to stand the test of time.

He explained that the roads were built with a robust 6-inches  concrete base and topped with a 3cm asphalt layer, adding that the roads are both durable and visually appealing. 

 He said as part of events marking the one-year anniversary of the Governor, the Governor  has inaugurated  newly constructed internal roads and  some rehabilitated ones within the capital city.

The new roads that were  completed within the first year of the administration include: a 4.5km Mile 50 New Layout road, the 13.3km Udude Street internal roads, the Legacy FM road, the 20.5km Onueke-Ikwo section of the Abakaliki ring road, and the 17.2km Nwezenyi-Nwanwu-Mgbaji Nwagu section of the Abakaliki ring road.

According to the Commissioner, the 4.5km Mile 50 New Layout road,  hitherto virgin roads that were known to be waterlogged, underwent scarification and other processes to stabilize the soil.


"It was constructed in concrete pavement before laying asphalt to smoothen the surface. This road will stand the test of time, and yesterday, the governor commissioned these road projects initiated and completed by his administration across the state.

"The road projects commissioned include the 4.5km Mile 50 New Layout Road, the 13.3km Udude Street internal roads, the Legacy FM Road, the 20.5km Onueke-Ikwo section of the Abakaliki ring road, and the 17.2km Nwezenyi-Nwanwu-Mgbaji Nwagu section of the Abakaliki ring road, among others", he explained.

The Commissioner listed some rehabilitated roads within Abakaliki as  Udude, Emefor, Onamba, Police Junction, Goddy Ogbaga Avenue, Olisaemeka, Barr Igweanu, Nnorom, Alo, Grace Ovu Nwagu, Mike Aduaka, and Igweanu Liga Street. 

He pointed some  other projects that are currently ongoing in the state, which Governor Nwifuru inspected as part of the one-year anniversary as   Chuba Okadigbo International Airport runway, Nkaleke Unuphu road, Ogbaga road, Traditional Rulers' Duplex, Pilot School, and Izzo Housing Estate. 

He assured  that the Governor Nwifuru-led administration would continue to focus on delivering quality leadership by providing durable infrastructure.
