Igiri emerges Chairman, Ebonyi LP transition committee

Comrade Igiri Innocent has emerged Chairman, Ebonyi State Labour Party (LP)  transition committee.

The meeting was organized in line with directives of the National Transition Committee of the party, chaired by Comr. Omar Abdulwaheed Ibrahim to all the 36 state chapters subject to the approval of the national transition committee.

Other members of the state transition committee include Comrade Rapeal Akpaeze, Co-Chairman (South); Mr. Ekumaoko Ginikachi Nnachi, Chairman, Congress Planning Committee; and Pastor Ken N Oziomaeze, Secretary, Congress Planning Committee (Central).
Members of the South sub-committee are Hon. Christian Chukwu Otu (PTF), Secretary, Transition Committee; Apostle Chukwu John, Chairman, Mobilization and Recruitment; Comrade Mark Chimezie, Chairman, Support Groups; and Comrade Igweanu Sunday Michael, Chairman, Registration and Revalidation Subcommittee (Central).

Ezeh (US Navy), chairman of security, Mrs. Ijeoma Chukwu, chairperson of the gender equality subcommittee, and Chief Dominic Egwu, chairman of the contact and stakeholder engagement subcommittee (South).

Media and Publicity subcommittee: comrade Ose Vincent Ebenyi (North), Apostle Benjamin Egwu, chairman of diaspora engagement (South), as well as comrade Moses Nwali, chairman of special groups and diversity.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Igiri who pledged to join hands with other executives to ensure the party takes on the winning side commended the  National Transition Committee members led Comr. Omar Abdulwaheed Ibrahim and the state  leader, the 2023 gubernatorial election Comr. Splendour for their commitment towards  positioning the party.

He, however, tackled state governors over the issue of the minimum wage as proposed by the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC), calling on them to stop the ridiculousness against workers and urging them to resign if they would not prioritize the welfare of workers across the country.

"I humbly wish to accept this appointment to serve as the Chairman Labour Party Ebonyi State Transition committee. Labour Party in Ebonyi State following the National Transition committee is now set for a journey into the new Nigeria we seek.

"I thank our gallant National Transition Committee Chairman Comr. Omar Abdulwaheed Ibrahim whose footsteps we are following. I also thank our leader, the 2023 gubernatorial election Comr. Splendour Oko Eze, and all the National Transition Committee members for their comradeship and commitment towards rightening the wrongs in our great Labour Party, and positioning the party towards winning elections.

"I thank our state Labour Party Stakeholders, the NLC, the Obidient family and the entire Labour party faithful in Ebonyi State. Your resilience is very loud to the deaf and clear to the blind.

"We fought gallantly since 2022, and we are going nowhere because we have been pushed to the wall and there's no other place to go than to join Mr. Peter Obi, Comr.Splendour Oko Eze, and indeed the majority of our people to continue in Labour Party for a New Nigeria beginning with a new Ebonyi State.

"Let me use this opportunity to air my voice on the issue of a new minimum wage as proposed by NLC. Let me say this; the Nigerian Governors Forum should not ridicule the suffering masses.

"People are indeed suffering. As at today, inflation rate has gone to 34%, naira to dollar is 1600,the price of premium motor spirit is between 600-1500, and you expect the minimum wage to only adjust a bit up? That is ridiculous! Any governor who says that he can't pay the agreed minimum wage between the tripartite committee and the Federal Government on minimum wage
should with immediate effect resign and hands off the mantle.

"Workers deserve a living wage.
Finally, I congratulate my co-transition committee members, together we shall deliver and restore the dignity of Labour Party in Ebonyi State in tandem with the plans of the National Transition Committee of our great Party. Our quest to have a party that is geared towards winning election cannot be defeated" he stated.
