On July 20, 2023, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, inaugurated his executive council members to work with him towards ensuring the delivery of his mandate, which is centered on meeting the people's charter of needs agenda.
Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, a civil engineer per excellence who was on that day sworn in as the State Commissioner for Works and Transport, was saddled with the responsibility to construct, rehabilitate, and improve the already existing infrastructure in the state.
Also, to stabilize the public transport sub-sector of the economy and maintain affordable transport fares for the people.
Commemorating his one-year anniversary in office, Engr. Mbam, who reassured of his commitments to improved infrastructure, thanked Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for bestowing trust in his ability to head such a ministry that requires expertise, commitments, and enthusiasm to work on his shoulders.
While reacting to questions from journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital, Engr. Mbam has maintained that within the past year, his ministry has been committed to Governor Nwifuru's conceptualized visions and determination to tackle the road infrastructural aspect of the Divine Mandate consolidation with a view to taking the structure to the hinterland and delivering the highest standard of road infrastructure to the people.
"In my assumption in the office, I already enthused by the broad objective of the Ministry which was to construct, reconstruct and rehabilitate urban and rural roads in Ebonyi State, stabilize the public transport sub-sector of the economy and maintain affordable transport fare regime quickly settled for work conscientiously in conformity with the suitable demands of “The People’s Charter of Needs ” policy of His Excellency, the governor which seek to extend road infrastructures to the rural areas, employ global road technology to safeguard both the existing and the future roads, link up all the communities of the state as a way of institutionalizing the ease of agricultural produce transportation by building more bridges and flyovers at strategic points.
"In one of my offices and reactions to the questions by journalists, I said, “We in the Ministry of Works and Transport are aware of the Governor’s conceptualized visions and determination to tackle the road infrastructural aspect of the Divine Mandate consolidation with a view to taking the structure to the hinterland and delivering the highest standard of road infrastructure to the people. And so we are committed to that policy of giving the people the best of what they need.”
"Worthy of note therefore is that within this one year, I justifiably lived up to the responsibilities reposed on me by the governor through intensive monitoring and supervision of roads, bridges, and flyover projects across the state. Most of the projects have been completed, while others are ongoing." He explained.
Engr. Mbam further highlighted some of the achievements of his ministry:
"For instance, 4.5 km of Mile 50 internal roads with an overlay of 3 inches of asphalt have been completed.
Aloh Street, Emeofor Street, and Nnorom Street were completed with concrete pavement and an overlay of asphalt.
"Ebonyi State Agro Farm Internal Road.
Construction of a triple-cell box culvert along Nkwogu Street has been done and dusted.
Ebonyi State University internal roads and so many other internal roads numbering about 13.5 km have already been completed.
"Lot 1 of the 23 km Ogbaga-Nwofe road is nearing completion, while work is progressively going on in other sections of the road and other numerous road projects, including the 19 km Obvudechi, the Iziogo road, and the 31.83 km Offerekpe.
"Others include Agbaja Road, 22 km of Ezagu-Ezillo Road, Akaeme Street, and Ndiebor. Agbaja Nkaliki Road, to mention a few.
"While I clock one year in office today, we shall reflect with gladness that, in my good understanding of the imperativeness of working in a conducive environment, within barely 30 days of my assumption of office, I transformed the ministry’s environment to an unprecedented aesthetic, obviously preluding his dexterity to move the ministry forward to a greater echelon, thereby giving it a befitting facelift of creative imagination of modern trend.
"Armed with the ability to manage the affairs and resources of the Ministry, my leadership aptitude within a couple of months proved that I have the capacity to deliver and have succeeded in executing an uncountable number of road infrastructure projects across the state, while many more are on course.
"On this eventful moment of one year in my office, I say bravo to the good people of Ebonyi State for their support of this great achievement." He stated.
