Ebonyi community pledges to partner government to boost food production




The people of Item Amagu in Ikwo LGA of Ebonyi State have promised to support  the policies and programmes of the present administration of governor Francis Nwifuru aimed at improving food production in the area.

They made the promise when the members of  Ebonyi State Agricultural, Land Development Authority, EB-SALDA paid a familiarization visit to them at Edukwuedo playground Item Amagu  to ensure strict compliance with the decision of the government to revolutionalise agriculture for a better yields.

The Village Head of Item Amagu, Mr. Vincent Igboji and a stakeholder from the area, Mr. Linus Amiara who spoke on behalf of the community  thanked  members of the board for the visit, describing it as a clear indication of  government's readiness to ensure food sufficiency in the state and beyond.

They however, regretted that the  Dam constructed for irrigation in the area in 1965 had remained moribund after it was damaged by overflown water ,stressing that over (57) homes in the community  who were affected by the incident were yet to be compensated by the government 

They stressed the need for government to keep to its promise of  assisting genuine farmers to actualize its objective of increased food production and sufficiency.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Hon. Maxwell Nwali  who represented the Board Chairman, Mrs Enekwachi-Akpa said that the visit was to actualize the new policy of Governor Francis Nwifuru's  administration to make agricultural land more useful through mechanized  farming  to boost food production in the state 

Mr. Nwali emphasized that the government had involved experts to engage  and encourage genuine farmers to adopt best agricultural practices and the use of improved seedlings and varieties for better productivity.

The Farm Manager in Ikwo Mr. Vincent Onele announced that the government was prepared to embark on all year round farming and other activities that would promote food sufficiency in the state and the country.

Other Board members who accompanied the Executive Secretary Mr Nwali on the visit included Member one of the Board, Prince John Nwenewo, member Land Committees Pacellation, Tracing and Allocation, Mr.Daniel Ali and the Farm Manager in Ikwo, Mr. Vincent Onele.

Item  Amagu is one of the  communities in Ikwo  LGA of Ebonyi State with vast land for massive food production and other agricultural activities.
