LG polls: Ezza North stakeholders desert Nome, back Mgbada for chairmanship job

The stakeholders of the Ezza North local government area of Ebonyi State have allegedly deserted their incumbent council Chairman, Ogodoali Nome and declared full support for Mark Okechukwu Mgbada, the Aspirant of the council's chairmanship position under the All Progressives Congress, APC.

They declared their support to Mgbada following his expression of his interest after the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC fixed 20th July 2024 for the election of the 13 local government areas and 171 political wards in Ebonyi State.

The Council Chairmanship Aspirant, Mgbada made this known to journalists in Abakaliki while in a solidarity movement with his thousands of supporters for the APC family yesterday during the party stakeholders meeting.

He expressed joy over the massive support given to him by the elders, traditional rulers, other stakeholders and youth of his local government area since he indicated interest in the position.

He expressed confidence in winning the election, considering the unwavering support coming from his people.

Mgbada said: "My people have brought me out to contest the local government election because they have abandoned the council chairman. Both elders, traditional rulers, other stakeholders and youth are supporting me to contest the chairmanship position."

He commended the leadership manner of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, and his commitment to transform Ebonyi, saying that he had made courageous impacts in youth development, education, health, infrastructure, workers' welfare and general well-being of the residents of the state in less than a year in office.

He assured of emulating the state governor by stepping down his administration policies and programmes anchored on the People's Charter of Needs to the grassroots level if he emerged victorious as the Ezza North council chairman in the upcoming election.

The Aspirant also hailed the leadership prowess of the State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, whom he described as a unifier and trailblazer in the Ebonyi political system.

Reacting, the Ezza North Council chairman, Ogodoali Nome said he had obtained the expression of interest form for the election and maintained that he was never disturbed by his opponent's enthusiasm to challenge him in the upcoming APC primary.

He also stated that a significant number of the council stakeholders have given him their blessings to complete his second term, following his human-oriented projects already finished and those yet to be completed.
