Alex Ekweme University to confer honorary degrees on Ex- gov, Elechi, Innoson motors

The Alex Ekweme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State has concluded plans to honour two eminent Nigerians, Chief Martin Elechi and Chief Innocent Chukwuma  with honorary doctorate degrees at the institution's 7th and 8th combined convocation ceremony.


The Vice Chancellor of Alex Ekweme Federal University Prof John Oge Elom made the disclosure at press conference heralding activities for the 7th and 8th combined convocation ceremony billed to hold on Wednesday, 22nd and Thursday, 23rd May, 2024

According to VC, the former governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Martin Elechi will be conferred with a Doctor of Economics ( Honoris Causa) while Chief Innocent Chukwuma, Founder/CEO, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company 
will be conferred with the Doctor of Engineering and Technology ( Honoris Causa)

The VC revealed that a grand total of 
3,474 graduates will be awarded the Diploma, First Degree, postgraduate Diploma and Higher Degrees 

"We are turning out 3,474 graduates –       1, 357 of them belong to the 2020/2021 set while 2, 117 is of the 2021/2022 academic year. Out of these 3, 474 graduating students, 52 graduated with First Class, 911 with Second Class (Upper Division), 2, 088 with Second Class (Lower Division), 407 with Third Class and 1 with pass". 

"We are turning out 96 postgraduates        (9 Ph.Ds, 62 Masters and 24 Postgraduate Diplomas). It is the first time the university is presenting Ph.D. and Masters’  Degree students for convocation" He said.


The convocation lecture will be delivered by Prof Bart Nnaji, Chairman/CEO, Geometric Power Group and Former Minister of Power, Federal Republic of Nigeria with the theme  “Challenges and Opportunity to improving Power Availability in Nigeria".

He stated that the institution under his leadership  has made verifiable progress in many fronts. 

According to him, "We have ensured that all our academics programmes were approved and accredited by the National Universities Commission and relevant professional bodies". 

"Our students graduate on schedule, and are also mobilized to the NYSC programme each year, and in every batch and stream. Our university has also gained the reputation as a rapidly emerging citadel of learning, globally recognized for the seriousness of its academic activities".

 "More so, our university, its staff and students are ranked highly by international rating organizations in world universities rankings, research output and debate competitions". He stated.
