The Board Chairman of Ebonyi State Agricultural Land Development Authority
EBALDA Mrs Lovette Enekwachi-Akpa
has assured the board's commitment to tackle the issue of food insufficiency in the state by harnessing the available natural resources.
The chairman who gave the assurance
during the maiden meeting of the board at Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki
said that the board would actively collaborate with the state ministry of agriculture to boost food production and job creation .
"Our dear state has always been known for agricultural practices, ranging from arable lands across the state and her energetic people, whose dreams have been to first make food available to their families and their entire neighborhood.
"It is evident enough that our state, to date, produces the best rice there is in the country in terms of taste and nutrients." Enekwachi said.
She highlighted the issue of food insecurity as a challenge to the nation, calling on the people to take advantage of the available natural resources in the state to enhance productivity and salvage the situation.
"We will definitely work hand in hand with the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture to get directly to our local farmers across the state, get to hear once more from them what their current challenges are, and start dishing out solutions immediately as the Lord gives us grace," it added.
Giving further reassurance, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Hon. Maxwell Nwali, said members of the Board would ensure the swift execution of their mandate to provide sufficient food in the state as well as export it to others across the country.
"The task has begun, and we are not going back until we see that food is on the table of every Ebonyian, man and woman, and then we have surplus to export outside the state, and that is exactly our work.".
He expressed confidence in the capabilities of members of the board and assured the government that they would explore their various experiences to ensure enhanced food production and sufficiency in the state.
