Easter: Ebonyi Deputy Speaker empowers widows, others

The Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedu Onah had put smiles on the faces of the widows in his constituency and beyond.


Hon Onah who represents Ohaukwu South State Constitueny distributed over 200 bags of rice  to the Widows and less privileged.

Also distributed were wrappers for making of clothes, buckets for kitchen use,  and undisclosed amount of money to enable them celebrate the Easter.

Moreso, the Deputy Speaker also used the opportunity to enroll the women into Ebonyi State Health Insurance Scheme
in partnership with the Her Excellency's pet project "Better health for rural women, Children, and internally displaced (BERWO),  where they can access their quality Healthcare without paying any money in any hospital. 

He said he was moved by the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary and determined to organize a widow part for the widows of Ohaukwu south state constituency on annual basis in a way to step down dividend of democracy to his people.


"I am doing all these sacrificially to better the lives of my constituents and also in the spirit of Easter. It is the love I have for God and my constituents that is making me to do all these". Onah said.

"Through the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary, He made the greatest accomplishment that brought salvation to man and reconciling humanity with God. It is on the basis of that reconciliation that I in attempt to trace my mission on earth have resolved to be organizing party for the widows of my constituency on annual basis"

"The widows' party which comes under the auspices of Ojichiaga  Foundation is part of our encouragements to widows of Ohaukwu South State Constituency who are also integral part of our electorates. This year, we have decided as usual to extend the gesture to other areas outside our immediate constituency to accommodate others from across all the nooks and cranny of Ohaukwu Local Government area. This we are doing as part of our appreciation to God for the enlargement of our coast"

"The scope of this years' event is more widened as we are partnering Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced (BERWO) to flag off the Rural Women Health Scheme Enrolment Programme. I therefore most respectfully commend and appreciate Your Excellency's exemplary steps for championing the course of the less privileged, the children and the vulnerable through the instrumentality of BERWO and to assure you that we have been motivated to replicate the charitable gestures in the hinterland through our partnership"

"Your Excellency have through this your pet programme touched lives and liberated many families from shackles of poverty and lack to the state of comfort and abundance. Our aim is to key into that ideology of touching lives and giving arms to the needy"

The Deputy Speaker urged people in positions of authority in the State to emulate the humanitarian tenets of the Governor's wife to make our society better.

The representative of the wife of the State Governor, Dr Mrs Nkechi Echiegu thanked the Deputy Speaker for the love he has for his people.

The Member representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu Eze expressed gratitude over the kind gestures of the Deputy Speaker.

Members of Ebonyi State House of Assembly  were there to support their Colleague Onah in that succour giving.

Some of the Members were Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga, Mr Joseph Ununu, Godwin Abiri and Nkemka Onuma Okoro Among others.

Two of the Beneficiaries, Virginia Okwo and Mrs Felicia Ezeome on behalf of the other 200 women thanked the Deputy Speaker for providing food, clothing and medical care for them.

They prayed for God's continuous blessings upon the family of Onah.
