It was a celebration of the beauty, culture and traditional heritage of the people Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo in Ebonyi state as the federal Lawmaker representing, OHANIVO federal constituency
Hon. Nkemkanma Kama organized cultural carnival for the people of the constituency.
The carnival which was held at Onicha Central School, Egunkwo in Onicha Local Government, attracted different cultural display music and dance.
The venue of the carnival, Onicha central school field was filled up with people from all walks of life who trooped the venue to catch a glimpse of the colourful event.
The event also featured presentation of
awards to deserving individuals to include Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Sen. David Nweze Umahi, Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, Dr Ifeanyichukwu Odii, among others.
Speaking during the event, Hon. (Dr.) Nkemkanma Kama, who described culture as a veritable means of development and promotion of peace called on his constituents to see OHANIVO 2024 Unity Carnival as a tool to promote peace and unity amongst themselves.
He said: the Carnival is expected to serve as a unifying symbol for our people, the reminder that we’re one indivisible people (Nwanne Mara Nwanne Ya) and our own unique picnic, where families meet each other yearly and celebrate.
“According to him, “Culture is said to be the lifeblood of any thriving society, and it’s best expressed in the way we tell our stories, celebrate, and entertain ourselves. It helps us remember the past and cast imagination on the future.
“Our Cultural expression helps define who we are, and helps the world see us through our own eyes. One of my primary focus as your representative is to promote Peace and UNITY amongst ourselves.
“The OHANIVO CULTURAL CARNIVAL which is designed to showcase our rich and diverse Cultural heritage is one of the means of promoting Unity and peaceful coexistence in Ohaozara/Onicha/lvo Federal Constituency and Ebonyi State.
“Undoubtedly, no meaningful and measurable growth and progress can be achieved in the midst of crisis, chaos, bickerings and disunity.
As a people, we’ve come a long way. From 1976 through 1996, we existed as one indivisible Ohaozara Local Government Area (now referred to as Old Ohaozara).
“The 1996 political expansion that splitted us into Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo Local Government Areas couldn’t divide us as it brought us into same Federal Constituency, Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency and we’ve continued to coexist peacefully.
“Therefore, there’s now the need to make a unique definition of who we are, through our Culture, our way of life and tell our stories in our own unique way. This is what this Carnival stands for and promotes.
Moreso, this Carnival is expected to serve as a unifying symbol for our people, the reminder that we’re one indivisible people (Nwanne Mara Nwanne Ya) and our own unique picnic, where families meet each other yearly and celebrate.
“Truly, I am convinced that our Culture, when well packaged and promoted, could serve as Tourists’ attraction and a product worth selling even to the West and a veritable means of development and promotion of Peace in our Constituency and State.
“As I welcome you to this auspicious event, which by divine providence, has become an annual event, I want us to reflect on our unique culture that distinguishes us and bound us together. I want us to see the enormous gains inherent in our Culture and unity as a people. As we meditate on these few points, I welcome you all once again and thank you specially for honouring Ohanivo with your presence.”Ohanivo is moving forward ! Ebonyi State is on the rise.’
