Echara FC has emerged champions of the maiden edition of Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FON Izzi unuphu community Unity Cup football competition
In the finals played at the Nkaliki Primary school field, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state Echara FC defeated Nkaliki FC by a lone goal to win the match.
The event which was watched by dignitaries from across the community and beyond, showcased the immense talent of the grassroots football teams.
The sponsor of the tournament and Ebonyi state Commissioner for Works, Engr Chief Stanley Lebechi Mbam who was accompanied by the traditional ruler of Izzi Unuphu community, HRH Eze Boniface Nwoba Nwagbo,
performed the symbolic kick-off of the final match.
Speaking after the match Engr Stanley Mbam Lebechi who commended all the participating teams said he was happy that the competition would help discover talents and foster unity among the people.
He said the football competition falls in line with the state government’s policy of youth engagement which is anchored in people's Charter of Needs agenda.
He said that the Governor Francis Nwifuru-led administration is committed to promoting progammes that would project the well-being of the youth since the future of the state lies in their proper upbringing.
He called the people to continue to support the People's Charter of Needs agenda of Governor Francis Nwifuru to take Ebonyi to greater heights.
The sponsor of the tournament, Engr Mbam and the traditional ruler of Izzi Unuhu community co-presented a magnificent trophy, medals, and a cash prize to the deserving winner, Echara FC
while Hon Mrs Franca Okpo presented cash prize and medals to the runners -up
The team went away with N500,000 cash prize while Nkaliki FC that came second got N250,000.
Also, Agbaja Unuphu FC won the third place trophy and N150,000. while the Fourth Inyimegu got N100,000
Individual awards were also given out during the ceremony.
Furthermore, awards were presented to the Highest Goalscorer, Best Goalkeeper, and Best Coach of the tournament.
One of the stakeholders in the area Mr Linus Nkwode who supported the tournament with N200,000 in an interview with journalists commended the sponsor of the tournament Engr Mbam for hosting the event which he said would go along away in ensuring that the latent talent of the youths are groomed to blossom in a way that will make stars out of them.

Our reporter reports that the grand finale of the tournament attracted numerous dignitaries, including Hon Chinedu Emenike, SSA to governor on youth mobilization; Hon Chukwuma Nwiboko, SSA on Projects; Hon Mrs Franca Okpo, Fmr mb, EBHA; Hon Oliver Nwachukwu, Fmr mb EBHA, Hon Victor Nwoke Member EBHA, Chief Isaiah Ofunte, Comrade Nwojiji Jeremiah Onyekachi (melody ) chairman Nwafor uzor traders union Nkaliki and other stakeholders. The event was a testament to the power of unity and the vibrant sports culture within Izzi Unuhu community
Before the kick off at the grand finale of the match, an ultramodern toilet constructed by Engr Stanley Lebechi Mbam at Nkaliki market was inaugurated amist joy for use.
The facility was commissioned by the traditional ruler of Izzi Unuphu community HRH Eze Boniface Nwaoba Nwagbo (Igwebuike II)
