Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State chapter, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha has assured of peaceful and free primary election on Saturday in Ebonyi South , ahead of the February 3rd Senatorial bye-election in the zone .
Chief Emegha who gave the assurance while interacting with Journalists in his office in Abakaliki on Friday noted that all was set for the exercise in the zone.
He said relevant stakeholders, including the electoral umpire, security agencies, among others, had been promptly and appropriately notified to ensure smooth conduct of the election.
He said that the Party was conducting a fresh primary election, that will guarantee the emergence of an APC candidate for Ebonyi South Senatorial zone.
Recall that the vacant position in the Ebonyi South Senate was as a result of the appointment of Senator David Umahi as Minster of Works.
“It’s a fresh election. The Screening/ Congress Committee and the Appeal Committee are already in Ebonyi to handle issues revolving around the Congress election.
Recall that there was a declaration of vacancy of Ebonyi South seat in the Senate because of the resignation of Sen. David Umahi from the Senate, who was appointed as a Minister.”Today is Congress and tomorrow is primary elections.
The police, DSS are on ground to ensure smooth conduct of the election. Remember, it’s an internal affairs. We have always used dialogue to come up with our stand as a Party.
“We are confident that the security Agencies will do their job. We have agreed as a Party but we cannot deny anyone the right to contest election. The SWC agreed that the next Senator of APC should come from Onicha LGA. it was in the interest of balancing of power.”The elected five delegates will in turn elect the candidate of the Party for Ebonyi South zone.
The five delegates will emerge from the electoral Wards across the five LGAs involved as 3 man Committee will handle the election.”
Also speaking, the Chairman of the 7-man Screening and Special Congress Committee, Mr. Smart Iheazor explained that two members of the Party in the State purchased the form for the election and that only one of them returned it to the Party.
According to him “We have commenced action immediately. We screened the candidates that have purchased the form for the election. Two persons purchased the form but only one returned the completed form while the second person didn’t return the form.”
