The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr Mbam Stanley has organized a table tennis tournament on the platform of the Mbam Stanley Lebechi (MSL) tennis club to preach unity among the people in the State as well as to support Governor Nwifuru's people's charter of needs agenda.
The table tennis tournament which was held at the Commissioner's residence in Abakaliki the State capital had 12 players from 2 teams competing in a friendly game to showcase the peaceful nature of the current administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
Addressing the Journalists, Commissioner Mbam said the table tennis tournament is meant to unite the people in progress and to demonstrate their support for Governor Nwifuru.
"This is for unity, in progress, and support of the people's charter of needs of our dear Governor R.t Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, we are organizing to make the end of the year colorful". he said.
The commissioner had earlier sponsored a unity cup for the Izzi unuphu Community in Nkaliki, Abakaliki local government area of the State to bring the government close to the grassroots through sports.
He maintained that the gesture is to ensure that people remain physically fit and can benefit from the government in sound health.
"Sport is part of my hobby, I'm the commissioner for works and transport but that does not mean that I don't do sports.
" The tournament I organized is for my people, these are also my people, it's a way of keeping everyone in active form because work without play makes you dull". he explained.
Commissioner Mbam expressed his desire to accommodate young talents into his sporting activities to actively engage them in usefulness for the betterment of society.
One of the players, Mr Ebinga Smart (PhD) commended the commissioner for initiating the game as well as noted his commitment to involve young talents in his humanitarian scheme using the sports.
"We commend the commissioner, and we are determined to support him to take the sports further than what it is now, it should be extended to the larger group, to build up a good physical fitness and sound mind".
Other members of the Mbam Stanley Lebechi tennis club, coach Prince Osita and Mr Obodo Uchenna Emmanuel appreciated the commissioner for the initiative as well as urged other well-meaning individuals in the State to emulate him and put smiles on the faces of people.
