The Ebonyi state Commissioner for Avaition and Transport Technology, Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu on Thursday said that the Infrastructure Development Company, IDC, handling the repair of the Chuba Okadigbo's airport runway has commenced Asphalt overlays.
Recall that the state governor, Francis Nwifuru had approved #13.7billion for the repair of the Chuba Okadigbo's airport runway, and to be completed within eight months period.
Obichukwu made this known while speaking with newsmen shortly after the inspection of the level of work done at the Chuba Okadigbo's airport runway located at Ezza South, Onueke.
She however, revealed the committed efforts of the state governor, Francis Nwifuru to ensure that IDC delivers a quality and standard airport runway to the state within the stipulated eight months period.
According to her: "The Infrastructure Development company, IDC, have started Asphalt overlays on the runway, it is ongoing now. The atmosphere and temperature is good for the Asphalt.
"The level of work at the runway is impressive, and believing that they will deliver the project on the stipulated time.
"I was interfacing with the site manager, he told me that they have started the production for the asphalting. And today they have started Asphalt overlays" she stated.
She further urged the company, IDC, to do all within their powers to ensure that the project is delivered at the stipulated 8 months period, adding that the governor, Francis Nwifuru is in a hurry to get the airport functional.
The commissioner, Obichukwu further stated that the Chuba Okadigbo's airport runway when completed, will be the best in the entire south east region, and however assured that there will be adequate security to protect passengers when flight operation resumes.
She applauded the governor, Francis Nwifuru for planing to secure airline for the Chuba Okadigbo's airport, adding that the airport has the longest runway, and when completed, will attract investors and other airline operators to start plying Ebonyi, instead of other states in South East region.
