Governor Nwifuru promises to prioritise elders' , widows welfare





Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state has assured that his administration will continue to prioritise the welfare of the elderly people and widows in the state in line with his social contract.

Governor Nwifuru gave the assurance on Saturday at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakalikii, during Elders and Widows Party organised at his instance

 The governor reiterated his stance on bettering the lots of people especially the elders and widows  and  other less privileged.


The essence of the People's Charter of Needs, he explained is to ensure an effective target mechanism that will eliminate leakages in the course of reaching out to the socio-economically disadvantaged.

He stated that his government will continue to honour the elderly and widows.

"We understand that when we honour our parents, God will honour us", he averred.

The governor  acknowledged the current economic realities and their attendant effects on the widows and elderly and pledged an upward review of their upkeep.

"Let me assure you that I am with you, I am for you and I will work for you".

"We have taken a review of your allowances which is why we reviewed it upward", .

He stressed the need for strict adherence to time, saying, "We have a tradition of keeping to time".

The State Commissioner for local Government, Mr Uchenna Igwe said the Governor is committed to ensuring the welfare of all classes of Ebonyians., assuring that it will remain an annual event.
