Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has presented N202.1billon 2024 budget to the State House of Assembly for consideration and passage.
Nwifuru presented the bill titled "Budget of innovation and Progress ' to the state Assembly comprising N132,804,740,000 billion capital expenditure and N 41,161,100,000 billion recurrent expenditure.
The governor also voted 22.78
per cent of the total budget to education.
The Governor while presenting the budget noted that the people's charter of Need serves as the guiding principle of his administration in addressing diverse opinions in the areas of Education, Health, Agriculture, ease of doing business , water resources, affordable housing, critical infrastructure and in the developmental strides of embracing information and communication technology
"The essence of our commitment to education goes beyond bricks and mortar; it lies in the dreams of every child who now has access to quality
learning environments. Picture a student in a rural community, now equipped with the tools and facilities necessary to unlock their full potential"
Governor Nwifuru added that the ongoing move to construct 39 duplexes, 3 duplexes in each Local Government Area with 12 classrooms, is not just a mere political achievement, stressing that it is an investment that will shape the future leaders of Ebonyi
State.
Speaking further on the various sectors, Nwifuru said administrative sector took 41,243,151, 900.00 representing 27percent, Economic sector took 90,389,600,000.00 representing 10 percent, law and justice has 3,589,365,007 representing 37percent, Regional sector -714, 010,000 representing 95% while the social sector took the highest 66billion representing 66percent.
He noted that the overhead cost of the budget stands at N42,162,100,000 bn.
Responding, speaker Ebonyi state House of Assembly, Hon.Moses Odunwa, assured that the budget would be given the needed accelerated endorsement.
Odunwa stated that the none existence of interferences between each of the arms would surely bring about Checks and balances,also engender coherency in the governance of the state.
He noted that the seventh House of Assembly within six months in office, has given accelerated passage into law six Executive bills"
