BERWO: Commissioner Mbam, wife flag off free medical outreach in Abakaliki

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works and Transport,  Engr Stanley Mbam and his wife Winifred Mbam in collaboration with a group, MSL foundation have flagged off free medical outreach in Abakaliki the state capital to support the pet project of wife of the state Governor, Mrs Uzoamaka Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru.

 

The Governor’s pet project is known as  'Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Foundation (BERWO)

 

Speaking during the flag off at Nkaliki primary school,  Abakaliki,  Mrs Winifred Mbam said the free medical outreach was to support wife of the governor in bringing  health care services closer to the people. 

 
She opined that apart from the free medical check and drugs, patients/ beneficiaries were also given food items and toiletries 

 
According to her, this is a way of helping indigent citizens and less privileged in the community by solving medical challenges free of charge in line with the People's Charter of  Needs agenda of Governor Francis Nwifuru 

 
She further stated that their decision to give priority to the health needs of the people are due to the importance  the governor and wife  attached to the health challenges affecting the people, they believed that only a heathy populace could keep the community going and guarantee a sustainable socio economic life 

 
Mrs Mbam while commending the governor and wife for their developmental strides in the state within the short period in office called the people in the area to continue to rally support to them  in taking Ebonyi to greater heights.

 
"We're here for free medical outreach in support of Her Excellency the wife of the state Executive governor of Ebonyi state Mrs Maudline Nwifuru pet project".

 

"I want to use the opportunity to appreciate the almighty God the maker of heaven and earth. I want to thank him specially for giving us our workaholic governor Rt Hon Francis Nwifuru the Governor of our dear state Ebonyi. And his amiable wife chief Mrs Maudline Nwifuru.

 

“Within their few months in office they have been able to transform the lives of Ebonyians in a positive way.

 

 "Recently Her Excellency launched her pet project 'Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Foundation' BERWO……,,,,no doubt that With good health and human capacity development, infrastructure inclusive Ebonyi is on the road map to do greater things. We are here today to support their  vision in making Ebonyi ,of our dreams. I want to appreciate Their Excellencies for giving us the opportunity to serve. May the Good  lord bless you and your family with good health and vitality”.

 

One of the members of the medical term, Dr Jack Chinedu  said the medical outreach was basically to render health services to the rural populace, Mother and child and also the elderly 

 

He said the sponsor of the outreach commissioner for works Engr Mbam and wife were passionate about the well being of the rural people especially their healthcare .

 

He said the patients were being screened and treated free of charge .

 

He said the team were made of six doctors, six nurses and three lab scientists and one biomedical engineer from FETH, Abakaliki 

 

"We are here on behalf of the commissioner for works , who called us on behalf of the wife of the governor . We are here to attend to mother and child and also elderly men ". 

"We have a lot of drugs that can be able to take care of several illness, we have lab team and also HIV team. We came in a team of about six doctors and six nurses and three lab scientists and one biomedical engineer ". 

 

"The programe will last for three days that's 10th ,11th  and 12. We will also be going to different local government Ishielu government and izzi local government precisely. I know vividly it cut across the North . So far we have recorded about 50 patients on ground while we still have quee about 80 and we are expecting more"

 

Some of the beneficiaries of the free medical outreach like Mrs Edeme Ukamaka, Felicia Mgbebu  appreciated the commissioner for works, Engr Mbam  and wife for organizing the free medical outreach  describing it as heart warming. ENDS
