Ebonyi state government has warned residents against vandalization and  illegal connection of water pipes to their homes without approval from government

The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr. Nkah Chinedu  gave the warning in an interview with journalists in Abakaliki.

He urged those involved in the illegal connection of water pipes and
vandalization of the state water projects facilities located at Ezzillo and Ofere Ekpe to desist from the act for their own interest in order to boast water supply in the state.

The commissioner who noted illegal connection of pipelines has affected water supply negatively called the citizens of the state to come to the ministry of water resources to request for connection of water to their localities rather than stealing or vandalizing the pipes.

He said that the state government led by governor Francis Nwifuru had fixed all the vandalized facilities and reticulated water to the people, after eight years of non supply of water.

According to him: "the vandalization are beyond pipes, cables, pumps, and more vitals tools at the water supply system. We started by fixing the Ezzillo water scheme, to make sure that it gets functioning. On the process of trying to pump water to Abakaliki capital city, we discovered that the damages done on the supply system are enormous.

"Some are deliberate, some are stolen, why some are as a result of old infrastructure. If you approach the capital City, you see scavenges where people looted the pipes, why some people are building on it.

Nkah, said that the governor Francis Nwifuru, on the assumption of office few months ago, vowed to supply water to reduce hardship and sufferings by citizens of the state, and had fulfilled the promise.

"When we start pumping, you see water running inside somebody's house and fences. Some didn't even care, they will cut this pipes while building, and they will continue. Through the efforts of the governor, Francis Nwifuru, who is committed and focused, we are supplying water to the citizens of the state" he stated.
