Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has approved an exit package of N10,000 for Ebonyi state workers.
Umahi who disclosed this in Abakaliki during the 2023 Workers Day celebration said his administration had had a cordial working relationship with Ebonyi workers
Represented by his Deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe, the governor said: “The exit package is also for local government workers, and that shall be added in their May salaries.
“My administration has made government-worker friendliness possible. Our relationship with civil servants has been cordial.
”In my eight years in office, we can say that we have created over 65,000 direct and indirect jobs for the people.”
“We have created four more federal institutions – David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, David Umahi Federal Teaching Hospital, Muhammadu Buhari International Airport and Isu College of Education.”
He however apologized and asked for forgiveness from the civil servants in the state for allegedly stepping on their toes while in the office
“There is no doubt I stepped on toes and offended some. It was never intentional it was the best I knew and for the good of our people, please forgive.
“As I bow out, I have forgiven all those who thought they offended me. May God bless our state, our workers and our people,” he stated.
Earlier in a remark, the state chairmen of NLC and TUC in Ebonyi state, Prof. Oguguo Egwu and Mr Osifo Festus, tasked the government to engage more teachers in public primary and secondary schools to enhance the quality of life and education of children in the state.
“We believe that the engagement of more qualified teachers in our Primary and post-primary schools will enhance the quality of life and education. There should be engagement of more Doctors, Nurses and other health care professionals in the state.”
They called on the state government to renovate the infrastructural facilities located in the various Secondary health care centres.
“Enhancing the welfare packages of the workers in the state will reduce the biting pressure in governance and show sincere concern to all the competing demands of the people in the state”
Meanwhile, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Party and Labour Matters, Dr Mrs Jenifer Adibe-Nwafor has commended Gov Umahi for his steadfastness in taking care of the workers' welfare in the state since the assumption of his office.
Mrs Adibe-Nwafor who stated this in an interview with journalists noted that Governor Umahi's administrative impacts on workers of the state remained laudable.
She said: "Since the inception of this administration, it has been peaceful between the government and workers in the State, the government has always engaged workers in dialogue.
“At the moment, a lot of their welfare has been met, during the time of minimum wage for instance, when other states were still negotiating, the labour unions went into dialogue with the Governor and Ebonyi State became the first to pay the thirty thousand Naira minimum wage, among other welfare packages."
She further applauded Governor Umahi for creating job opportunities for the people in Ebonyi State by building an international airport of world standard as well as the David David Federal University of Health Sciences.
She noted that the infrastructural facilities built by Governor Umahi's administration have employed many youths, men, and women in Ebonyi and however, called on the workers to support the incoming government to continue moving the State forward.
