Ebubeagu disbandment: Ebonyi govt to appeal judgement

Ebonyi State Government has said it will appeal the judgement of the Federal High Court Abakaliki, which
ordered the  disbandment of   Ebubeagu Security Outfit in the state

The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation Barrister Uchenna Orji,  disclosed this in Abakaliki while reacting to the court ruling during a joint media briefing with the Security Consultant to the State Government Chief Stanley Emegha and the Governor's  Principal Secretary Mr Emmanuel Obasi.

Recall that a Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, in a judgement delivered by Justice Fatun Riman had declared that Ebubeagu which was established by the state House of Assembly, EBSHA, was illegal and unconstitutional.

Justice Riman had in his judgement disbanded Ebubeagu security outfit, and called on Nigeria Police and other security agencies to disarm Ebubeagu Operatives.

But Orji who said that  the State Government was a Law abiding institution however insisted that the judgement was a clear case of miscarriage of Justice and judicial rascality.

According to Orji: "That Federal High Court judgement is a miscarriage of justice brought about by a malice on the side of the judge.

"It's a judicial misapplication and misinterpretation, having regard to the principal of judicial and judicious decision. The judgement of Justice Fatun Riman is a miscarriage of justice that is dead on arrival" he stated.

"The Legal Team of the Government have filed Stay of Execution of the judgement at the Court of Appeal, we are confident we would have victory’

‘We have not made any Legislation that is in conflict with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the judgement is a clear case of miscarriage of justice’

Meanwhile, over two hundred (200) youths have staged a peaceful protest at the front of the old government house Abakaliki, on the disbandment of the Ebubeagu security outfit by the Federal High Court.

The Protesters who was chanting a war song, carried placards with various inscription "We love Ebubeagu, Ebonyi youths stand with Ebubeagu, Ebubeagu has come to stay in Ebonyi state, Ebubeagu for peace and security of Ebonyi state, no security no peace" the inception reads.

The leader of the protesters, comrade Stanley Kamali said: "We will not accept that judgement that was delivered by Justice Fatun Riman of the Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki. Ebubeagu Operatives have come to stay because we are comfortable with the security they are providing for us" he stated.

In a swift reaction, the Principal secretary, Emmanuel Obasi tasked the protesters to be of good conduct, and assured them of the preparedness of the governor, David Umahi to follow all legal proceedure to ensure that the judgement is quashed.
