Ebonyi APGA governoship candidate escapes death as gunmen attack convoy, kill driver

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA governorship candidate in Ebonyi state in the 2023 general election, Prof Benard Odoh has narrowly escaped death as gunmen attacked his convoy.

According to a reliable source the attack took place in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.

The source further said that the candidate was returning from Agba communuty in the Ishielu council, where he had gone for a consultation, when his convoy was  ambushed at the Rest House area of the Ishielu council, along the Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway.

It was gathered that the hoodlums, who parked a plate-numberless Sienna bus along the road, opened fire on the convoy while precisely aiming at the governorship candidate’s vehicle.

His Toyota Jeep, it was gathered, was completely shattered.

His driver was reportedly killed during the attack while his police orderly and three others sustained  varying degrees of bullet wounds.

It would be recalled that Odoh was first attacked, last October, at Iboko community, in the Izzi Local Government Area of the state, on his way to attend a meeting with his supporters.

According to the source, those injured were currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Efforts to reach the Ebonyi State Police Command for comment on this development, failed as of the time of filing this report.

Calls made severally to the spokesperson of the Command, SP Chris Anyanwu, were not answered.

He was equally yet to respond to messages to sent to his mobile by our reporter.
