The people of Ekpaomaka Community in Ikwo local Government Area of Ebonyi State were thrown into mourning as the bodies of 4 relatives of the council chairman who were assassinated by unknown gun men were laid to rest.
Recall that unknown gunmen had attacked the hometown of the Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Steve Orogwu, killing three of his relatives and a neighbour.
The gunmen also burnt down the family house of the Orogwus.
The incident which occurred on 17th May, 2022 claimed the life of 4 persons whose names were given as: Mr.Egwu Origwu(75yrs), Chigbogu Orogwu(26yrs), Sunday Orogwu(19yrs), and Mr.Kelechi Nwuji(27yrs).
The victims were all laid to rest after interdenomIcaonal funeral service at Nwanoyo Stadium, Ikwo Local Government Area.
Governor David Umahi in a message of condolence to the family and the people of Ikwo described their unfortunate death as barbaric and man inhumanity to man.
He prayed such calamity should never befall Ikwo people again.
The Governor represented by Deputy Governor Dr Kelechi Igwe decried that the society has decayed and urged youths to rise and wage war against wanton killings in the land.
Umahi noted that insecurity is not peculiar to Ebonyi State, and emphasized that there's an urgent need for residents of the State to expose criminals living among them.
He charged stakeholders, and council chairmen to be on alert and report any suspected miscreant to the security operatives.
That government of Ebonyi state will not take for granted the mandate given to them by the people of Ebonyi state.
In a sermon, tagged Remember, Rev Ikenga Agwu urged Christians to always remember that the world is not our home.
Rev Ikenga Agwu admonished the family to remain strong and faithful to God despite the ugly incident.
Rev. Agwu who represented the prelate of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria said though the circumstances behind their death were tragic, Christians should build the courage to trust in the lord.
The chief mourner and Chairman Ikwo local government area Elder Steve Orogwu, said he leave vengeance for God as his brother and children never knew the offence they died for. "You never know anything but you were killed for what you know nothing about."
The chairman describes his late brother as an industrialist who loves peace and prays God to show him mercy and fight for them as the unknown souls uprooted their lives.
The son of the 75 years deceased Dr Uchenna Orogwu describes his late father James as a great hero who loves to help those around him and a lover of farming. He prayed that God will continue to give him/his siblings eternal rest.
