Ebonyi govt to embark on campaign against rape in public institutions

Ebonyi state government is to embark on campaign against rape to tackle the increase rate of cases in the state

The State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation  Hon. Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji disclosed this while briefing newsmen after the State Executive council meeting in Abakaliki.

 He said government frowned at the rate of increase of rape cases in the state especially in public institutions and directed that henceforth there would  be no sacred cow in the enforcement of the Laws on Rape

He said "EXCO reviewed the unfortunate increase in the rate of rape in Ebonyi State and commended the office of Her Excellency the Wife of the Governor and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for a very beautiful job they are doing in the fight against rape in the State". 

"EXCO directed that there should  be no sacred cow in the enforcement of the Laws on Rape". 

"EXCO directed the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Information and State Orientation, the office of the SA Students Affairs, SA Strategy and SSA Religious and Welfare Matter to carry out urgent State campaigns against rape in public institutions including churches, schools, markets and other public places". 

"EXCO also noted the submissions on increased use of hard drugs in the society and designated Mr. Mark Onu to head the campaign against hard drugs and to go to all joints and market places and to work with police and Ebubeagu Security outfit to apprehend the perpetrators".

 
Meanwhile, the state government has received a proposed bill for law to establish public complaints commission in the state.

According to Uchenna Orji: 'EXCO received a proposed bill for Law to establish Public Complaints Commission in the State and directed the Committee Chaired by the Honourable Attorney General, to review the bill and bring report in the next EXCO meeting. Other members of the committee are: Commissioner for Information and State Orientation -  Secretary; SSA Legal Member; Head of Service Member, and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice Member
