The Senator Representing Ebonyi South Senatorial district, Distinguished Senator Michael Ama Nnachi, Ph.D, has paid tribute to the members of NUJ, Correspondents' Chapel, Ebonyi State on the occasion of their 2022 Press week.
Senator Ama Nnachi in a statement issued by his Media Office which was made available to Newsmen in Abakaliki congratulated Ebonyi Journalists for their resilience and diligence in the discharge of their responsibilities in the state.
The Senator who is the Vice Chairman, Senate Committees on Air Force; and Poverty Alleviation, and Social Investment, commended the Nigerian Media for their doggedness in promoting and sustaining Nigerian democracy.
He called on the Media Practitioners to remain steadfast in upholding the sanctity of truth and fairness in their reportage, at all times.
He said the role of the media as watch dog of the society cannot be over emphasized, and deserved to be accorded all necessary supports and cooperation, by all and sundry.
According to him, the Ebonyi NUJ Correspondents' Chapel 2022 Press week with the theme: "Time to Deepen Media involvement in Nigeria's Democracy" is apt, as it is coming at a time when the country is preparing to transit to new democratic dispensation.
He said for the media to truly perform its statutory responsibilities effectively, practitioners should religiously obey the ethics of the profession and show maturity and high level of responsibility in their conducts.
He said media practitioners must work towards the common good of all and the society, by being cautious in their reportage.
Nnachi promised to partner the Chapel in the service to the people of Ebonyi state, especially the people of Ebonyi South zone, whom he currently represents.
"On behalf of my family and the entire good people of Ebonyi South Senatorial district, I heartily felicitate with the members of the NUJ Correspondents' Chapel, Ebonyi State, on the auspicious occasion of their 2022 Press week".
"As you celebrate your week, I urge you to continue to refrain from mischief and be cautious of your reportage, and take the pursuit of peace and unity of Nigeria seriously and as your watch word.
"On my part, I will strive to assist and partner with NUJ, Correspondents' Chapel Ebonyi state, in my quest to providing effective and qualitative representation to the people of Ebonyi South zone.
"Once again, congratulations as I wish you, a very fruitful 2022 Press Week",the statement reads.
