The Association of Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON), Ebonyi state has described the statement credited to the non-existing ""APC Founding fathers/members" as laughable, baseless and concocted falsehood fabricated to heat up the political space, create enmity and division in the party .
ALGON maintained that the decision of Governor David Umahi in endorsing Hon Francis Nwifuru as his successor, was born out of his wide ranged consultation of Party Stakeholders through series of Consultative Meetings focused on zoning across every Local Governments of Ebonyi State .
In a statement signed by the ALGON Chairman, Princess Nkechinyere Iyioku and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, said that the so-called group which goes by the name OLD APC, is non-existent in the their Party.
"The All Progressive Congress (APC), has been drawn to an online publication on the media platform of Operanews, being attributed a non-existent group which goes by the name: _"Founding fathers/members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, otherwise known as Old APC" and being led by Engr. Paul Okorie; alleging marginalisation and ostracism from the Party".
Princess Iyioku stated that the Governor's endorsement of a candidate of his choice, shows that everyone has the civic right to freedom of choice, vote and be voted for and association.
She added that the endorsement of the Speaker, Hon Francis Nwifuru, to fly the flag of the party ahead of the Gubernatorial election of the State come 2023, does not in any way hamper or put a stop on anyone's aspirations ahead of 2023 for any Political position under the democratic Party.
She called on Engr. Paul Okorie or any other bonafide member of APC in Ebonyi state to go ahead and exercise their civic right in any position of interest to them, as the power to vote is in the hands of the delegates and Ebonyians.
"We truly finds this ill-concocted publication laughable and baseless; and would have chosen not to respond to the falsehood it was fabricated to spread towards heating up the political space and therein creating enmity and division in our ever united strong party".
" The so-called group which goes by the name OLD APC, is non-existent in the our great Party, as one of the key visionary step taken by Gov Umahi upon joining the APC Family of the State, was to unify and break any chain or dichotomy of Old and New APC Members.
She said that APC family of Ebonyi State remains one United family and there is nothing like Old APC or New APC.
ALGON Chairman restated their prepardness to kick against any form of division or distraction from any quarter, adding that the party is solely focused on attaining landslide victory across board ahead of the 2023 general elections.
"Today, we have a strong united party which is void of faction and united in purpose, leadership and direction; in which the interest of every member of the party are well considered and everyone is being carried along .
"The decision of our dear Governor to endorse any candidate of his choice, shows that everyone has the civic right to freedom of choice, vote and be voted for and association.
" In same vein, Gov Umahi has stated openly that his endorsement of the Speaker to fly the flag of the party ahead of the Gubernatorial election of the State come 2023, does not in any way hamper or put a stop on anyone's aspirations ahead of 2023 for any Political position under our democratic Party.
ALGON wishes to advise Chief Paul Okorie or any other bonafide member of our party to go ahead and exercise their civic right in any position of interest to them, as the power to vote is in the hands of the delegates and Ebonyians.

She noted that the consultation is aimed that ascertaining what Ebonyians want ahead of 2023 election adding that Engr. Paul Okorie was among the major stakeholders who attended the Zonal Meeting when it was held at his Local Government. Ends.
