Osinbajo Calls For Measures Against Imminent Economic Crisis

The Vice President of Nigeria,Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has called on Nigerians and  the three tiers of government to brace up to more Economic challenge that may come up in future.

Osinbajo stated this in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital during the 21st editon of the council on development planning which he said has remained 
a very important platform for setting the tone of national development and opportunity for federal and state governments to fathom out active collaboration for the wellbeing of the people.


He called for synergy  among all tiers of government now the nation  continue to face the challenges of the  onslaught of COVID-19 pandemic, which according to him has been compounded by the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.


He said such a synergy would assist Nigeria to tackle the challenges confronting the nation's economic prosperity.

 "We must brace ourselves to collectively respond to the inevitable economic challenge that will occur and some which are already occuring.

"The challenges include corruption, recovery from the onslaught of the COVID 19 pandemic and the economic effects of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

"The invasion of Russia has led to price and supply shocks in the food and fuel markets and we should collectively brace for its inevitable economic challenges.

"I commend the Ebonyi state government for ensuring the successful organisation of the event and its infrastructural strides which has enhanced its people's wellbeing," he said. 

Speaking, Governor David Umahi thanked the vice president for the visit and the national council on development planning for choosing Ebonyi to organise the meeting.

"I commend the vice president for his commitment and loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari as challenges facing the country are not peculiar but global.

He said that the country was only having its fair share of such challenges believe strongly that with God and patriotism, both leaders would see us through the challenges.

Mrs Zainab Ahmed, Minister for Finance, , in her address, commended the participants for their fruitful deliberations, noting that recommendations from the meeting would enhance national development planning in Nigeria.

Osinbajo during the visit, inaugurated a section of the dualized Abakaliki/Afikpo expressway, a section of Enugu/Abakaliki dual carriage way, Mile 50/Ishieke dual carriage way, Dr Sam Egwu twin flyover bridge, new government Chapel, President Muhammadu Buhari tunnel, among other projects, executed by Governor David Umahi's administration.END//
