The Association of Local Government of Nigeria ALGON, Ebonyi State has congratulated the State Governor, Chief David Umahi on his court victory at the State High Court 2 presided over by Justice Henry Njoku against the suit brought against the Governor by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC in the 2019 Governorship election in the state.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of ALGON Ebonyi State, Hon Princess Nkechinyere Iyioku commended the judiciary for upholding the confidence reposed on them as the last hope of the common man.

ALGON noted that the judiciary in the state has also exhibited steadfastness in the discharge of it's duties which has reflected unbiasedness in the Laws and Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 

Hon Iyioku stated that the swift striking out of the suit challenging the Defection of Gov David Umahi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Ruling All Progressive Congress (APC); which was filed by Senator Sonny Ogbuoji lacked merit.

The body also described the Ruling of the Court, as victory for the good people of Ebonyi State and Nigeria as a whole, stating that this has only confirmed that the judicial system are committed towards ensuring the strengthening of our democracy and the actualization of the New Nigeria we all dream of.

"The ALGON body of Ebonyi State, do joyously felicitate and celebrate with His Excellency and the entire good people of Ebonyi for this great democratic victory over the opposition party, PDP. This, truly is a victory for all Ebonyians and Nigerians as a whole; indeed the Judiciary has once again proven that it still remains the voice and hope of the common man still and general public". 

To this, we empathically commend the Judiciary for standing firm with the law and not allowing itself to be bullied or penetrated by injustice and corruption. We had envisaged this victory for democracy, because even prior to the ruling, the stipulations of the Constitution as pertaining to the matter were unambiguously clear to all, that a defection from one Party to another was never a yardstick upon which, one who is democratically and overwhelmingly elected into office by the populace as in the case of His Excellency, can be made to vacate office; either as a President, Governor or Deputy."

"Our heartwarming Congratulatory message goes to our great leader, a strong pillar and father of democracy, The Executive Governor Of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Engr Dr David Nweze Umahi Fnate Fnse; a man with a divine vision for good governance and also the infrastructural genius that birthed the new face of Ebonyi State we all enjoy today. 

Your Excellency, the pronouncement of the Court on this matter on the 28th of Feb. 2022 which was greeted with great ecstasy of joy and jubilation amongst Ebonyians and Nigerians as a whole, truly affirms the strong faith and trust that our people have towards your transformational agenda and vision for the State and Nation going forward."

The Chairman went ahead to extol the Governor for his dogged determination and zeal focussed on revamping totally the old rhetorics which has plagued the land of Ebonyi State over the years and still standing tall and stronger even in the face of numerous distractions from self centered, greedy and corrupt political elements.

"We want to also extol the great and dogged spirit and passion of His Excellency, for transformations continuous delivery of excellent dividends of democracy to our people across Ebonyi State, even in the midst of distractions and propaganda from political opponents. 

"We are today re-echoing it to them all, that your Divine Mandate Mission can never be truncated nor cut short by any of their evil antics and devices. You have remaind focused in your continuous fight against the winds of time in transforming the State, therein standing out as the best across all facets of governance.

Indeed, political propaganda and frivolous suits such as this from any quarters, can not in any way deter or be a restraining factor to your rare progressive good government which has been garnering tremendous waves of applause from all nooks and crannies of the Nation".
