The Wife of the Senator representing Ebonyi-South Senatorial District, Mrs. Clara Ijeoma Nnachi, FCA has felicitated with all women in Ebonyi-South Senatorial District and women in general as they celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day.

Mrs. Nnachi, who is the Chairman, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Abuja & District Society, in a statement issued by Senator Michael Ama Nnachi’s media office in Abakaliki, congratulated Ebonyi-South women and the entire women folk across the State and the Nation at large for marking this auspicious day which has been set aside for the celebration of women especially for their pivotal role in the family and in nation building; and as usual, the attention of the World is drawn towards women and the challenges they face.

She described the theme for this year’s celebration: GENDER EQUALITY TODAY FOR A SUSUTAINABLE TOMORROW, as very apt, noting that the theme revolves around seeking a permanent solution to gender-related issues and towards according the woman the rights and respect she duly deserves.

When we hear “Gender equality”, most can’t see beyond the surface and for others, it simply evokes the image of women claiming to be same as men.
But no, that’s very wrong!
Gender Equality simply means that both genders should have equal rights; be it to social living, education, healthcare, work opportunities and others.

Mrs. Nnachi, in the statement, challenged women to strive for excellence in all spheres of life in order to change the disadvantaged position often bestowed on them.

According to her, it has become necessary for women to take the lead to challenge the biases that put women in disadvantaged positions in the society.

She further reiterated the commitment of her husband, Distinguished Senator Michael Ama Nnachi, Ph.D in uplifting the welfare and rights of Ebonyi-South women and women of Ebonyi State in general and called on Government at all levels to ensure that the rights of women are protected.

“To my fellow Ebonyi women, there’s no limit to what ‘We’ as women can accomplish”.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
