"Umahi used congresses to solidify APC in Ebonyi,"----Nweze

By our reporter

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC)  in Ebonyi state, Chief Chaka Nweze has declared that the successful conduct of the party's congresses from the ward to state levels, has Proven that Umahi is a great manager of men and resources, having brought all warring interests together.

Nweze, a former Executive and later Caretaker Chairman of the Ohaozara LGA who stated this an interview with Newsmen in Abakaliki said that the governor has used the Congresses to solidify the APC and the Stakeholders.

He said that  the governor's defection to the party from the PDP has proven to be a huge blessing to the APC.

The Pioneer Secretary of the APC in Ebonyi, said that not only did Umahi's entrance into the party give it a leeway to success, it most importantly and unimaginable, united all stakeholders of the party who were warring before.

"When Umahi joined APC, there were apprehension all over the place on how he would bring all these people to shelve their differences and work together for the desired success.

"Many people however, did not reckon how masterfully he steered the PDP to success, ensuring 100 per  cent victories in all elections in the state, he said.

The Former Vice Chairman of the state chapter of the Association of Local Government Association of Nigeria (ALGON) said that the successful conduct of the congresses shows that Umahi is a great manager of men and resources, having brought all warring interests together.

"People were also apprensive that interests during the congresses would tear the party apart but Umahi used his dexterity as the party's leader to calm all nerves and make stakeholders work together.

"The most potent tool employed by the governor was sincerity as he fulfilled his initial pledge to be fair, all inclusive to all and ensure equitable distribution of resources and positions," he said.

He noted that the after the ward congresses, many party faithful started having increased hope in the party as all stakeholders were recognised and every one allowed to control his or her area.

" Umahi ensured that all stakeholders were equiatably represented and this ultimately eliminated the Ogbonnaya Onu and Julius Uche factors and the old and new APC syndrome.

"Stakeholders who were formerly not on talking terms came together and brought out their political acumens to ensure that the state is now purely APC," he said.

Nweze noted that the seamless ward congress gave room for peaceful
and rancour free local government area and state congresses which made the party stronger and more re-positioned.

"You can see that the PDP is still feeling the impact of Umahi's departure as the vacuum he left there cannot be filled.

"PDP's loss has turned to APC's gain as it was shameful that they could not organise congresses despite all the noise and and propaganda they are known for.

"The worst came last Saturday when the party split into factions during its state congress with electoral materials snatched and items such as chairs and canopies at the congress venue destroyed.

"The most amusing thing is that the PDP's erstwhile publicity secretary who felt that if he insults Governor Umahi, he would be rewarded with the chairmanship position, got disappointed as he was used, dumped by the party and denied the chairmanship position.

Nweze said that he had advised the erstwhile publicity secretary who is his younger brother, to maintain his lane and not to cross paths with the governor.

"I made him know that Governor Umahi has brought so much development to the state and if he thinks that by insulting the governor,  he would be rewarded with chairmanship position; he was in the real sense, dreaming.

"We can all see that he is now disillusioned as he was used and dumped without even considering him for the publicity secretary he had before the contest.

"Besides, the former senate president I know wouldn't have supported his type for chairman," he said.

He urged APC faithful to build on the success of the congresses as it was now crystal clear that the party has taken over Ebonyi state.

"I highly commend the stakeholders for their maturity and commitment and they should keep the new found spirit alive and put the interest of the party above other interests.

"As preparations for the primaries and election proper commences, they should realise that anyone who does not get what he wishes now will get it in future and therefore support anyone or whom the party selects," he said.

He also advised the newly elected state executives to maintain its strides when majority of its members were in the party's state executive committee.

"They should be fair and accommodating and realise that APC is one family where varying interests exists but find subtle ways of managing them" he said.

He further advised party members who feel still feel aggrieved to shelve their grievances and identify with the majority decision of members.

"Politics is about interests but when the party has made its decisions, members should cue along and expect the best with loyalty
and submissiveness" he said.
