The Chief Medical Director Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, (AE-FUTHA) Dr. Emeka Ogah has warned job seekers that the institution was not recruiting new staff.

Ogah who stated this during a courtesy call on him in his office by members of the Correspondent Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State  raised alarm over the increase in employment scam in the institution.

He said that  fraudsters were collecting money from unsuspecting members of the public in the name of giving them job at the teaching hospital.

He emphasized that what the Management of the hospital advertised was for Internship Applicants and not Job recruitment.

Ogah who said that the hospital’s last employment was 2019, noted that anytime there is need for another employment that it would be advertised and followed the normal process.

He disclosed that some job seekers have been duped to the tune of N18million by fraudsters saying that the Hospital Management have arrested some of the suspects and handed over to Police for further investigation and prosecution.

He said: "AE-FUTHA is not doing any employment. We have only advertised for internship, the last time we employed was December 2019. Should we have any reason to employ, we will follow the normal process”.

This Internship we have advertised, when it is time they will come for interview, please if you know somebody discussing that they gave Mr A or Mr B money, let me know so that we will tackle the person”

“Every moment, people will just be saying we are employing, we are employing and they are just using that to defraud innocent citizens of Nigeria, collecting money from people and they will be using my name.

“Every now and then you go on facebook, they will be using my name that I said you should pay this, you should pay that.

“We have been making several disclaimers on the media, that we are not employing".

“Some people have defrauded others to the tune of N18million and they are in the police, police is handling it. We have reported some cases to DSS. Anytime we are employing, we will tell you yes that AE-FUTHA is employing.

“I have advocated that whenever they catch people defrauding, they should be prosecuted likewise the people who gave them the money because people are giving them the money that is why they keep defrauding people.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Correspondents' Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ebonyi State, Comrade Nwafor Samson, said the visit was informed by the partnership and cooperation that had been existing between the Chapel and the Management of AE-FUTHA since Dr Onwe became the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital.

He lauded the CMD for introducing reforms that had enhanced health care delivery in the hospital, and assured that the Chapel would continue to partner and cooperate with him to succeed.
