Chairman, South East Governors Forum  Chief David Umahi  has reiterated his earlier stand  that Ebonyi would not be part of Biafra.

Umahi who spoke during a One Day Prayer Submit organized by the State government at the Christain Ecumenical Center, Abakaliki said that joining bloc was tantamount to going back to second slavery.

He said "We will continue to say as a father of the State that we will not belong to Biafra, we will not.

“We will not go back to second slavery, we will not. We want to belong to Nigeria, we want to belong to fair play and equitable Nigeria,”

The governor who debunked the allegations that Governors in the South East are sponsoring killings in Anambra State called politicians to eschew partisan politics in attending to issues of security.

He said: “The security of our State cannot be solved by partisan politics. No southeast governor is importing thugs to kill anybody in Anambra State”.


“I wish that the effect of the hard drug will clear from the person that said it. Abakaliki people were said to be the ones doing IPOB and killing people in Enugu and Anambra.


On 2023 Presidency,  Umahi called on political parties in the country not to scheme out the  South East zone in the race.

He said the zone has made huge sacrifices in nation building  and must be allowed to produce the next President of the country whether through zoning or not zoning.

"And let me state very clearly, zoning or no zoning party or no party, South East must not be schemed out of the affairs of this nation, it must not be schemed out.

“What is good for other states, is good for South East, it doesn’t matter whom God enthrones. Let South East be properly integrated in the affairs of this nation. We are nation builders.

“We have investments in every part of this country and people use hate speeches to keep us down, people should not be afraid of us.

“We will work with the people for love and unity of this country. Give us a chance, treat us fairly for we have sacrificed. Even the states that are asking for VAT to collect, we have contributed alot in building those states” He said.
