Jos Crisis: Umahi evacuates Ebonyi indigenes in UNIJOS

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has ordered safe evacuation of State indigenous students from the University of Jos, UNIJOS following violent disturbances that erupted in Jos, Plateau State.

 The state Commissioner for Information and State Orientation Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji who disclosed this in a statement issued in Abakaliki said government officials have been dispatched to the institution to ensure safe return of the affected students with immediate effect.

The statement reads:
"Following the violent disturbances that led to the closure of University of Jos, Plateau State, the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi FNSE, FNATE,( Akubaraoha)  has authorized the evacuation of the stranded students of Ebonyi State origin from the University"

"Consequently, government officials have been dispatched to the institution to ensure safe return of the affected students with immediate effect while we hope that the situation will abate to enable the students resume their studies". The statement stated.

Recall that the  management of the University of Jos had suspended academic activities over the rising insecurity in the state.

On August 14, 22, travelers were killed along Rukuba road in Jos North local government Area of Plateau state.
