665 benefitting Ebonyi farmers to receive farm inputs from IFAD-VCDP

 About 665 benefitting farmers in Ebonyi state are to receive farm inputs in the 2021 farming season courtesy of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)--Value Chain Development Programme.

The IFAD-VCDP Ebonyi State Programme Coordinator, Mr Sunday Ituma, disclosed this at Onueke, Ezza South LGA  during the flag-off of its 2021 farm input distribution exercise.

The SPC said that the farm inputs include: rice seedlings, cassava cuttings and agro chemicals and the beneficiaries were expected to cultivate at least one hectare of farm land.

“The aggregate cost of such support to farmers in 2021 is 60milion and it covers farmers in eight LGAs of the state participating in the programme.

Ituma said that the support was under the additional financing 1 agreement of IFAD-VCDP and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“The state governor had graciously approved the signing of the subsidiary loan agreement which ensured Ebonyi’s participation in the additional financing 1 programme.  

He thanked the governor for releasing the counterpart fund for the progarmme’s noting that the support which was in form of grant would enhance farmers’ productivity.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chief Moses Nome while thanking IFAD-VCDP for the implementation, said that its activities had greatly benefited farmers

“IFAD-VCDP had assisted countless farmers in the state and made farmers change their mindset that agriculture was for the poor but a veritable business opportunity.

“This had ensured that majority of investors in Ebonyi were in the agricultural sector and your collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture had greatly benefitted the state.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke including Mrs Adamma Nwujah, Mr Nwifuru Itumo  commended IFAD-VCDP for supporting farmers with the inputs and pledged to effectively utilise them.
