 By David Ukah

The Senate Committee on health shall on Thursday next week, 24th June 2021 by 11am, hold a one day Public Hearing on a bill for the establishment of  Federal Medical Center, Owutu Edda sponsored by Distinguished Senator Michael Ama Nnachi, Ph.D,  Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial district.

The Public Hearing which is billed to take place at the Senate conference hall 231, new building, seeks to get inputs and contributions of relevant stakeholders on the bill, for its smooth passage into Law.

Recall that the bill was read the second time last year and referred to the Committee on Health, Secondary and Tertiary, to report back to the Senate

During the debate, some Senators made their contributions thus:

"I rise to second this Bill. I believe that we are all aware that the recent pandemic has taken a great toll in the lives of our people. Some of these deaths are caused by the inability of patients to access medical services. I believe that in accepting that this Bill be read the second time, this Assembly would have gone one step further in convincing Nigerians that we attend to their wellbeing." - Senator Abba Moro

"I rise to support this very important lead debate on the establishment of Federal Medical Centre, Owutu Edda in Ebonyi State. Senator Nnachi has done a very good job and I want to commend him for this. The need to access the Federal Medical Centre is of paramount importance." - Senator Sam Egwu

"I commend Senator Nnachi for bringing up this Bill. The importance of provision of good medical facility in any community cannot be overemphasized. When people have good medical facility, they will live a good life and the community will experience development." - Senator Akon Eyakanyi

Reacting to this development, A stakeholder in the area, Dr Gideon Osi, GOC described Senator Michael Ama as a man who knows how to get what the people need.

He said: "Distinguished Senator Michael Ama Nnachi( MAN) is indeed a man who knows how to get what the people need. With this hospital as the only Federal Government Tertiary Health Institution in the entire zone, it will provide quality health care for all of us as well as provide employment for both medical and non medical personels. This will surely enhance the economic activities of the area in addition to the impact of the Akanu Ibiam Fed Poly. I believe that with his network in the Senate, we will get this bill passed and then we can roll out the drums for celebration. Kudos to Ike Edda!!!

Kudos IKE EDDA for your impactful and effective representation of the good people of Ebonyi South zone, at the red chambers.
