Umahi donates 100 Motorcycles to Security Agencies

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has donated 100 Motorcycles to  various security agencies in the state
to aid the process of restoring peace in the hinterlands of Ezza Effium/Effium crisis area, as well as other remote parts of the state

The event  took place at old government house, Abakaliki
and has in attendance  senior police officers and other security agencies.


Recall that there has been lingering communal crisis between Ezza-Effium and Effium people since January, this year, which resulted in the death of  many persons and destruction of properties worth millions of naira.

Speaking during the presentation of the bikes, Governor David Umahi who was represented by the state commissioner for internal security, border peace and conflict resolutions, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, said the gesture is to respond to the appeal by security agencies in the state to aid the process of restoring peace in the hinterlands of Ezza Effium/Effium crisis area, as well as other remote parts of the state.

"It is in fulfilment of the promise the state government made to the security agencies, you know this Effium and Ezza Effium crisis, there are too many hinterlands that vehicles cannot access and as such, the security agencies made appeal to the governor of the state to procure some motorcycles for them, we procured 100 pieces of the motorcycles", he said.

A breakdown of the distribution showed that the police received 30 motorcycles,
20 pieces for the army and 50 pieces for the state owned neighborhood watch vigilantee group.

On the Security situation in Effium, Chief Stanley
Emegha, Said with the deployment of troops  to the crisis area as well as the continual visits by the state deputy governor and other security Chiefs, related peace has returned to the area.
"For weeks now and with the deployment of the troops, the  area has been calmed, and the deputy governor have been visiting there on two days basis, with me and other security Chiefs and as such, we have relative peace there for now"
