Two Soldiers Killed By Gunmen In Ebonyi ......as Hoodlums set Federal high court Abakaliki ablaze

Unknown gunmen have killed two soldiers at a military checkpoint on the timber shade junction area in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The incident which has heightened the tension across the entire state, and Afikpo, in particular took place around 9.oo pm on Monday according to security source

This is coming barely 10 days , after three policemen on a stop-and-search operations along Nwezenyi axis in Abakaliki, were shot dead by gunmen in the state.

It was gathered that the two slain soldiers were a man and woman.

The gunmen, according to a community source, arrived the checkpoint in a white bus and as the military men flagged them down for a search, they opened fire on them.


The source said, "the military men were said to be conducting their routine stop-and-search, and were trying to search the white bus when the unknown gunmen opened fire on them. Two of the military men, a man and woman, died. Others escaped the onslaught.

 In a related development, hoodlums have attacked the Federal High Court in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, burning some sections of the building.


It was gathered that the hoodlums, who reportedly scaled the court perimeter fence to carry out the attack, used a petrol bomb to perpetrate the act.
The court’s library and the security post were badly torched.

According to a reliable source two security guards were  injured during the attack.


When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident.
