Effium/Ezza Effium Crisis: Justice Elekwa to head Judiciary Panel of inquiry

The  Ebonyi State government has approved the Constitution of a judicial commission of inquiry into the Effium/Ezza Effium crisis with Hon. Justice Omaka Elekwa as Chairman, 

The commissioner for information and state orientation, Hon. Barr. Uchenna Orji, disclosed this while briefing Journalists after the State Executive Council meeting in Abakaliki.


"Upon the reports on intra communal  crisis in Effium community of Ohaukwu local government area, that resulted to the lost of lives and wanton destructions of property,

"The state government has approved the Constitution of a judicial commission of inquiry into the Effium/Ezza Effium crisis with Hon. Justice Omaka Elekwa as Chairman, 

"It's an eight man commission, the state executive council has also looked at the need for an unbiased commission, the need to have members that would not  have any relationship or interest with the happenings at the crisis area, the commission has thirty days within which to submit these reports. "

 He said "the commission is saddled with the responsibility "to determine the remote and immediate cause of the crisis that led to the lost of lives and destruction of properties in Ezza Effium and Ezza Effium in Ohaukwu local government area, 

"To determine the extent of damage of property and lost of lives, to determine those directly or indirectly involved in the Mayhem and apportion blames appropriately, as well as to

" Recommend measures and means to be taken by the government to restore normalcy and forestall further occurance of the ugly incidence in the community and to make recommendations for lasting peace in the trouble area".

Other members including, Barr. Gilbert Monday Okorie as the secretary, H R H Eze Chukwu Agbo, Chief Simeon Ede, Rev. F.r Moses Ogodo, Rev. F.r Okoro Agha, H R H Ezeugo Charles Azuenya, and Barr. Mrs Nkem Chukwu 


 Meanwhile, the commissioner has  denied knowing about the purported removal of the council chairman, Barr. Clement Odah, as speculated on social media platforms, 

"Purported removal of the council chairman,  I am not aware, the Government is not aware,  but wether or not the chairman is on seat, it will not affect the outcome of the judgment of commission of inquiry, he is not the commissioner of police, nor the DSS," he said.

Reacting over the disparity in the figures of casualties who lost their lives at the crisis area, he said the government is relying on informations from the affected community to verify, 

adding it becomes necessary that people detach sentiments and make reports for developmental purpose, he called on the members of the public to disregard misleading informations from social media platforms that are targeted at creating tension in the state.
