Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has assured judiciary workers of his administration's commitment for their welfare, which he said was his priority.
Umahi who stated this during the 2020/2021 legal year of the Ebonyi State judiciary in Abakaliki the state capital reaffirmed his commitments to the welfare of the judiciary as well as other workers in the state.
He said his administration is willing to prioritize the welfare of government workers in the state, irrespective of the harsh economic conditions as caused by the covid-19 pandemic, and other related global matters such as the volatile nature of the oil economy,
He encouraged the judges in the state to take advantage of the land situated at the king David camp estate, to build houses and live there with thier families.
"I am so appeased with the judiciary in Ebonyi state that, I had to initiate a loan for the welfare of both the judiciary, the legislature and the executive, which we call housing scheme welfare loan,
"and already we had given hundred million to assist the judges to build thier own houses, and ofcorse every judge has gotten a land at the camp David estate,
"I will like by the time I leave office, it's my desire and wish that all the judges should be able to have thier own houses, and all the legislatures and other exco members, and elder citizens of the state,
"and if you don't yet have a land, we will give you land, what we have done in Ebonyi for the judiciary and the legislature is to prioritize their welfare, thier salaries, buying of vehicles and renovations and more,
"I want to assure you, of our commitments to support you, to assist you, your welfare is our priority, to the development of our state Ebonyi" he stated.
The governor who commended members of the judiciary in the state, called on Judges as well to always ensure that justice is attained with the fear of God.
In his remarks, the chief judge of Ebonyi state, Justice Anselm Nwigwe, thanked the governor for maintaining a good relationship with the judiciary in the state, for provisions of basic amenities such as "the construction of customary court buildings in the LGA's, judges vehicles" , supply of
"devices and components like laptop computers, cameras, high definition television, zoom software and hosting licence among others".
In attendance was the Deputy governor Dr Kelechi Igwe (PhD), the speaker of Ebonyi state house of Assembly, Hon.Francis Nwifuru, represented by the deputy, Chief Odefa Obasi, The commissioner of police, CP Philip maku, Attorney General and commissioner for justice, Barrister Cletus Ofoke, Secretary to the state government, Dr, Kenneth Ugbala, the chairman of Christian association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Father Abraham Nwali, Former Ebonyi state Chief judge, justice Aloy Nwankwo and a host of other judges from withing and outside Ebonyi state.
