Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has apologized to the former Secretary to Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius and the former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator Sam Egwu, and others following the misunderstanding that ensued recently between him and the leaders.
Umahi further called on the leaders of the South-East to be peaceful and pursue the development of the zone rather than engage in bitterness and rancor.
Umahi stated this during the groundbreaking of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria/NLC/TUC/NECA National Affordable Housing Delivery Programme for Nigerian Workers at Enuabor Umuchima Village Uburu community in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the State.
Umahi who said the focus of his administration in 2021 would be to complete ongoing projects such as the airport, stadium, the shopping mall among others, ordered that nobody in his administration should abuse anybody again, henceforth.
"Let me publicly say it here again, that I have directed that nobody should abuse anybody, even if I am abused, it goes with the job. Do not abuse anybody but you can always put any distorted information straight.
"I am the father of the State and should not allow the state to go into bitterness and disunity. So, I have decided to move forward and I have decided to forgive all and all those who may have been hurt, because I take responsibility for all the actions of my Government officials and other supporters,
“I offer apologies to them (referring to Anyim, Egwu and others). I am not going to sit on the judgment with anybody. These apologies and forgiveness should be enough to settle all bad bloods. And I have no regrets for that. God directed me to do this. And I thank all our leaders who have intervened.
“I thank the Catholic Bishop Nnachi Okoro, I thank CAN people led by the chairman Rev. Dr Abraham Nwali, I thank the founding fathers, I thank the Ohanaeze leadership led by Chief Nnia Nwodo, Uchenna Madu and all the leaders of the south east.
“Never again shall we respond to any attack against our government. It is not necessary, but facts speak for itself,” he stated.
He said the housing project which is to cater for workers that will be working for the teaching hospital is implemented by Cheshire Nigeria Limited, a leading company in the business of providing affordable housing for low-income earners.
He called for the extension of the Housing projects in Uburu and Iboko from 99 units to 200 to accommodate the poor, widows and some persons displaced in the course of development of the State.
In a remarks, the Managing Director Cheshire Nigeria Limited, Mrs Nelly Mokwenye described the project as laudable, saying, the project when fully completed will help to reduce the housing deficit in Uburu and Ebonyi State.
