The Chairman South-East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State,  Chief David Umahi, has called
Igbos in Lagos to remain peaceful and go about their legitimate businesses without entertaining any fear of molestation.

Umahi who made the call at Okposi while reacting to a video circulating in the social media in which a certain man was threatening to attack Igbos in Lagos, urged Igbos to remain where they and ignore the threat.

He said that he had contacted western leaders who assured him of the safety of Igbos in the western part of the country.

According to him, we believe in one Nigeria; we believe in a country where equity and justice will thrive. And we are better and stronger as one.

He also assured all ethnic groups living in South-East, including the Yorubas to go about their businesses very peacefully, saying, “if there is any threat to any of them, they should immediately let our governors know and the security agencies.”

“I want to tell our people everywhere in this country to remain where they are. They should remain very peaceful, not to join any protest. I saw online yesterday, where one mad man, that is not even in the country, who claims to be from a very peaceful loving ethnic group of the Yoruba extraction, threatening Igbos in Lagos. And I want to tell Igbos in Lagos and everywhere in this country to ignore that madness.

“It is a sheer demonstration of madness. If he wants to lead war against the Igbos, he should come down from London and lead the war. I have spoken with the good leaders from the west and they have assured that our people in the western part of the country are safe. They asked us to ignore that empty threats.

“I want to assure every ethnic group living in South- East including the Yoruba to go about their businesses very peacefully. If there is any threat to any of them, they should immediately let our governors know and the security agencies.

“We are working round the clock to ensure that other ethnic groups in the South East are not threatened. We believe in one Nigeria, we believe in a country where equity and justice will thrive. And we are better and stronger as one.

He however appealed to Igbos all over the country not to join any form of protest.

“I appeal to our people everywhere in the country not to join protest again. Do not allow anybody to label this peaceful protest that happened, but hijacked by hoodlums an Igbo affair,”.

He thanked the governors and leaders across the country for the efforts they had shown in the face of the current challenge, and urged that the people give the President time to fully address the peaceful and constitutional demands of the peaceful #EndSARS protesters

“Let me thank the Northern Governors and leaders, the Western Governors and leaders, the southern governors and all the leaders in this country. It is a trying moment but we should toe the path of our President.
