Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state  has announced the intention of the State Government to handover the Covid-19 treatment center constructed by his administration to the federal government.

Gov Umahi who announced this during a live broadcast to mark Nigeria's 60 years Independence anniversary and Ebonyi at 24 at the New Government house, Abakalik, said the state government expended the sum of N4b in the construction of the hospital.

He added that the government is moved to handover the hospital to alliviate the bed space problem of the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki.

He noted that he was moved to handover the hospital when he visited the hospital and observed with dismay the condition of some patients who had to sleep on bare-floor and on benches after they had been discharged.

Meanwhile, Umahi has directed the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Cletus Ofoke to institute a legal action against the Presbyterian Joint Hospital Uburu to account for the intervention funds released to them by the past administration.

He accused the hospital of diverting the funds meant for the development of the hospital.

Umahi alleged that the management of the mission hospital fraudulently used the funds to establish a private university outside the State, adding that “no one would use the name of church to defraud the state”.

Ebonyi state government had last month took over the administration of the mission hospital after the expiration of the 100 years lease given to the hospital by the Uburu community in Ohaozara local government area of the state.

Answering question on the reports of alleged rift with National Assembly members from the state, Gov Umahi described allegation as a false.

According to him, he enjoys the best working relationship with members of the National Assembly from the state.

He said that a fortnight ago, he had audience with the National Assembly members at Nicon Hilton hotels,Abuja, where they wined and dined.

“There is no sign of enmity among us and for the first time, the entire National assembly members from the state accompanied me to five ministries in Abuja.

“We visited the ministries of power, water resources, empowerment among others for two days,"Umahi said.
