2021 Budget Debate: Sen Ama Nnachi makes case for Edda roads, others

The senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial district,  Sen Micheal Ama Nnachi, Ph.D  has pleaded with the National Assembly to look into the deplorable State of Edda roads and roads of other Southeast States of Abia, Imo and some parts of cross river state while approving the 2021 appropriation bill.

Sen Nnachi who made the case while contributing in the debate on the 2021 proposed budget presented recently by Mr President during the Senate plenary, said the N404bn earmarked for  Works was insufficient and should be looked into.

"The amount allowed in works, for me, N404bn should be looked into, considering the amount of funds owed indigenous construction companies by the Federal Ministry of works, as well as in order to accommodate the construction of the road linking Abia to Ebonyi from Cross River State, and Ebonyi to Imo state respectively.

"For instance, the road from my place, linking from Abribia junction, Nguzu Edda to Oso Edda, was awarded in 2012, but up till today, not up to one hundred and fifty million has been paid.

"Now Okigwe, Afikpo to Ugeb in Cross River State, the road is not passable. In 2002, the road linking Afikpo to Ugeb was designed and approved by the Federal Ministry of works, yet it has not seen the light of the day.

"I also plead that we look into these two roads linking Abia, Ebonyi, cross River and Imo States. The roads are very important, while we look into and pass this budget".

Senator Amah Nnachi called on members of the National Assembly to support the budget because  it is "developmental budget that will encourage production and productivity."

Senator Ama, however, commended Mr Buhari on the 2021 proposed budget, describing the budget as a paradigm shift, from the old order.

He particularly thanked Mr president for initiating youth friendly packages in the budget such as the provisions of youth investment funds.

According to him, president Buhari has gone ahead to project the youths beyond "not too young to run".

"The budget as proposed by President Muhammadu Buhari, for me, has created a paradigm shift from the old style. When I looked at that budget I saw youth investment funds. It's a good idea; not only that the youths can run for Elections, the youths can also become millionaires". END//
