Ebonyi reduces School hours to 4, As it announces reopening date

Ebonyi state government has announced Monday, 5th October 2020 for the reopening of schools in the State

The Commissioner for Education, Dr Onyebuchi Chima, who announced this in Abakaliki during the State Executive Council, EXCO meeting briefing explained that all schools will be reopened on said date including territory institutions in the state apart from Nursery schools.

He however noted that there will be staggering of classes in line with Covid-19 protocols in place in the state.

He said that government has reduced the hours for primary and secondary school to four hours.

According to him, while primary 1 to primary 3 will go to school from 8.00 am to 12.00 pm, the primary 4 to primary 6 will go to class from 12.15pm to 4.15 pm.

He added that JSS 1 to JSS 3 lecture will be between 8.00 am and 12.00 pm, while SS1 to SS3 will attend classes from 12.15pm to 4.15pm.


"The Honorable Commissioner for Education in a memo presented in Exco today for reopening of all school: primary, secondary and tertiary, the Exco approved 5th October 2020"


"There will be staggering of classes in two sessions (morning 8am- 12pm and Afternoon 12:15 - 4.15pm) in order to maintain social distancing", he said.

He explained that Early Child Care Development and Education classes i.e 3-5 years of age will not be resuming until later date.
