Ebonyi State Commissioner for Internal Security, Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Hon. Stanley Okoro Emegha has enjoined the people of Ibii and Amasiri Communities in Amoha Development Centre of Afikpo North Local Government Area to embrace peace and shun the unnecessary squabbles over land dispute in the area.
Hon. Emegha gave this charge during a reconciliation meeting with the stakeholders of Ibii and Amasiri Communities at the Old Government House Abakaliki, to douse the tension created by the alleged encroachment of Amoha Development Centre land
The Commissioner said that the ministry waded into the case following a report written to the Governor by Hon. Ihite Theodore, the Co-ordinator of Amoha Development Centre over the encroachment of the Development Centre Land and which the Governor minuted to him to handle.
Emegha reiterated that Governor David Nweze Umahi had zero tolerance for crisis and would do everything possible to ensure that peace reigned in all parts of the state.
The Commissioner who heard from the parties and received their submissions including request for the survey plan of the Amoha Development Centre land, stated that the Ministry of Internal Security, Border Peace and Conflict Resolution would carry out thorough investigations, in order to come up with a lasting solution to the crisis.
He, however, warned that nobody should trespass the land for whatever reason any longer until the issue was resolved.
He also appealed to the people to discourage their youths from taking laws into their hands to avoid any further crisis in the area.
Speaking, the Co-ordinator of Amoha Development Centre, Hon. Ihite Theodore appreciated Emegha for his approach and ingenuity in handling the matter, noting that he brought the report of the Development Centre's land encroachment to the Government as a way of finding a lasting solution to the issue.
Elder Paul Agha, who spoke on behalf of the people of the community, thanked Commissioner Emegha and his team for the measures taken to ensure that peace was achieved, expressing his optimism that the peace move would bring a final end to the dispute.
