Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has expressed concern over the increasing rate of crimes in the State; and charged the security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police to brace up.

He said it was improper for security agents to be more visible in the day time than in the night.

Umahi who stated this during the inauguration of Ebonyi State Community Policing Advisory Committees at Ecumenical centre, Abakaliki, expressed worries over the lapses on part of the security agencies in the State, and urged them to rise up to their responsibilities.
“Police is more active in the day than in the night. CP, I want to see SARS in the night the much I see them during the day. I want to see the Safer Highway in the night and see them in the day; not that they have not done very well, but we have to remain the best.”

"We wouldn’t mind forming a joint Disciplinary Committee with the Service Chiefs to end the unprofessional activities of some erring officers in the system".

Umahi who expressed displeasure over the rezoning of Ebonyi State from zone 9, Umuahia, to the newly created zone I3 at Ukpo in Anambra, said Ebonyi would not be part of the new zone.
He called on the Inspector General of Police for the removal of Ebonyi from the zone, saying, “I don’t know who smuggled us to Awka; I have no idea, we cannot be in Awka.”

Umahi who insisted that Ebonyi was comfortable with zone 9 division, Umuahia, stressed that Ebonyi had not attained the level of belonging to the new zone in Anambra State.

Earlier, the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, said community policing would assist the police to get enough information that would enhance security at the hinterland.

IGP Adamu who was represented by DIG Celestine Okoye explained that civil matters shall be handled by Community Police whereas the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) would be busy with Criminal Matters.

He charged the committees to ensure that good members of the society were selected for the job, bearing in mind that if criminals were selected, the community would be in trouble.

"My candid advice is that you choose the members wisely as politicizing the selection will defeat the aim of this whole process," he said.
